Google has spent billions optimizing the Chromium renderer across all platforms. It paints text and handles rapid updates better than most “native” solutions. Getting stuff like virtualization working natively was actually hell. No matter what I did, I couldn’t make it “feel” as good as chromium does by default. Lots of native engineers have made the same discovery

~25 years ago a friend partnered with me to build a message-board-as-a-service product. We were presenting it at the SF Hyatt at a conference dedicated to communities, and @craignewmark came by the booth and asked about the stack. We said it was on a M$. He laughed and walked away saying ❝that will never scale❞. We rebuilt it on a Linux stack and ended up serving a ridiculous amount of scale (for us at the time) on a single 486 CPU, plus some mad disk and HTTP caching. Though that company died, the benefits endured. Just wanted to say ❝thanks for that❞ Craig!

Those are botfly larvae. They borrow deeply into your skin and eat it. They are impossible to remove until you put Vaseline over them and seal with a bandaid for ~24 hrs. They live in dense jungle areas and attach their eggs to mosquitos as an attack vector. At first you might think you have an infected mosquito bite, but then they stay burrowed for many weeks until they mature.

Who knows what these are and why they are a problem?
