Reene was fired i got her job back, and cps changed its attendance policies ... that was 15 years ago ... Teacher John Kugler says there has been recent attendance tampering at Hyde Park Academy. "They know that tampering with attendance is illegal," he said. Kugler showed records from January of a student not being at school for days, yet marked present. Another teacher, Renee Riley from Turner-Drew Elementary Language Academy, says attendance records are being tampered with at her school, too. "Corruption is not going away unless someone fights," she says. Both Riley and Kugler say part of the scheme is to turn a "tardy" into "present." Three tardy slips equal one absence, and repeated absences ultimately mean less in government funding for the school. Riley disclosed a stack of more than 300 tardy slips from her class. She says only six of those tardies were actually entered into the system.
