@remartin_34 Soto is NO where near an asset as Ohtani is right now. All Soto has is offense. Ohtani has that, PLUS he's an Elite Pitcher, PLUS he is a Marketing Dream. Not only in domestic endorsements, but WORLDWIDE. If Soto gets a deal like Ohtani, then he that gives it is a fool.

I don’t think we’ll ever see a mega contract in MLB anything like the one Shohei Ohtani signed last offseason. The notion that Juan Soto might take the same route is… well, I’d bet my life on the fact that he will do no such thing. Shohei Ohtani now makes $40+ million per year through endorsements. The next closest player? I believe that is Bryce Harper, and the figure is around $6 million. The financial opportunity cost and risk involved in deferring money the way Ohtani did… it’s simply not feasible for other MLB players. Beyond that, Ohtani is not only a baseball unicorn. From everything I’ve read, the guy is basically like Tiger Woods or Michael Jordan, except without the expensive… interests. Ohtani saying he wants to win 9 more World Series championships in his time as a Dodger (which would be every remaining year of his contract) kind of tells you all you need to know about what he was thinking when he deferred that money. Most importantly, he was in a financial position through endorsements at the time he signed that no other baseball player has ever been, nor likely will ever be.
