Marcus Freeman said, “You don’t need to be a captain to be a leader.” 100% Truth -> Leadership is influence. And everyone has influence on their team. Being a “Captain” is simply a title. Remember: Collective leadership WINS. How are you helping lead your team?

PLAYERS: There will come a time when your season asks you what you did all summer. Every day is a chance to get better. You don't have to tell anyone how committed you are - just show them!.

The MBCA extends deepest condolences to the family of Carl Pierson upon his passing. His legacy as an outstanding educator, Coach, community leader, author, MGBCA leader, and family man will have lasting impact on all those he taught, coached, mentored, led, and loved. 🥲

DO YOUR JOB "You can have all the talent in the world but if you’re not going to listen and be in the right spot every time and be accountable to do your job properly then you’re not going to play." (Julio Jones) ~ via Alabama Football #BamaCuts

I've heard it said, if they don't praise you show up & work anyway, or if they criticize/don't appreciate you show up & do the work anyway. I get being self driven and never giving up, but why should anyone have to work like this. Effective leaders wouldn’t create this culture.

Don’t complain about your playing time this season if you weren’t working on your game in the off-season.

Let your kids struggle, fail & lose. Experiencing loss is essential for growth, maturity & learning. Kids aren’t supposed to win all the time. Fake trophies are meaningless. Let them feel & accept failure sometimes. It’s a part of life. You can either prepare them or pamper them!

Coaches should never have to question your work ethic, commitment, desire, attitude & preparation. It should be 100% obvious. You have total control of these things. There’s no special gene, talent or skill required. Prepare to be your absolute best. Control your control-ables!

Know this: extra work will always be OPTIONAL. Whether it’s HS/College/Pro, no one is going to hold your hand to make you get better. It’s on you. You have to want to be great more than others ever want it for you. Take responsibility for yourself, your game & your improvement!

Being great is not for everyone. As a player, you truly need to fall in love with a consistent, daily routine. That’s what it takes to be great. Everyone wants to tweet & talk about how hard they want to work to achieve their dreams. Very few follow through with those statements!
