@SamsonB But you’re right there is also a “don’t keep doing what Trump was doing” message in there. And China policy is probably one of the areas that Biden isn’t looking to totally pivot. But he’ll at least look to lower the temperature on things.

Significant and swift move by China to move past the Trump era and turn new leaf with Biden administration. Also some virtue signaling. Fits with China’s anti-chaos ethos and is a stark comparison with Russia, who sees “crazy moves” in the US as aligned with their interests.

@SamsonB Nope, you read correctly. The timing and explanation of it focuses on distancing from the US relationship they had with Trump. Plus attempting to take some high ground. To me, escalating with Biden would take the form of broader condemnation or sanctions outside of Trump clique.
