Essential books for product builders
I've put together a collection of my all-time favorite books, organized by their jobs-to-be-done. When your manager tells you to work on a particular development area—or if you’re just feeling the itch for self-improvement—these are the books to read.
To keep this list extremely high signal-to-noise, I forced myself to pick only three books per category (so hard!), and only books I’ve completed.
The collection includes both classics and under-the-radar gems. I very much agree with @pmarca's take that you should mostly read books that are over 10 years old (because those are the books that have stood the test of time), so you’ll notice no super new books.
There are so many great books that I didn’t include here, either because I haven’t had a chance to read them or they just didn’t make the cut. I’m sorry if I didn’t include your book, or a book you love. I probably forgot some important titles, too. That’s why we’ll have a part 2 (coming soon)!
Here's the full collection: lennysnewsletter.com/p/essential-bo…
P.S. What's a must-read that I missed (within these 12 categories)? Let me know in the comments.
P.P.S. If you’re feeling like you have no time to read, I was in the same boat, especially after having a kid. @bryan_johnson's suggestion of reading a book for 10 minutes before bed changed my life. I started reading more books, and I got better sleep! Try it out.

We went from $0 to $2.5M+ ARR in 9 months with 0 outside funding.
This is the exact growth playbook we used to scale our SaaS.
You can copy it.
STEP 1: $0 to $10k MRR
At this stage, you know almost nothing about your market.
So don’t spend 6 months building.
Talk to customers first.
Here’s exactly what we did:
Create a simple 7 slide deck explaining:
• the problem
• your solution
• the outcome
Start outbound immediately.
We used GojiberryAI to find high intent leads and contact them through LinkedIn + email.
Our targets:
• 180 LinkedIn invites per week
• 1,000 cold emails per week
• around 4-8 demos per day.
If prospects ask:
“How much does it cost?”
and are willing to pay…
you’re on the right track.
Before building the product, we were literally selling manually curated high intent lead lists.
Once enough people wanted it, we automated the process and turned it into software.
From $0 to $10k MRR:
Do outbound relentlessly.
Add cold calling if possible.
Your only goal:
Get your first 100 customers.
STEP 2: $10k to $25k MRR
Now you have customers.
Time to turn their wins into distribution.
For us, that channel was Reddit.
What we did:
Week 1: Comment and provide value everywhere.
Week 2: Comment on popular posts and subtly mention your product.
Week 3: Post your story + customer use cases.
Then: 2 to 3 posts per week with different angles.
People must get actionable value immediately.
If your content feels like ads, you lose.
People need to feel: “Your users are winning.”
At the same time: Keep scaling outbound.
Our first hires at this stage: 3 Customer Success Managers.
STEP 3: $25k to $75k MRR
This is when we added LinkedIn content.
Every single person on the team:
• posted once per day
• did outbound
Our strategy was : Lead magnets posts only.
Every post had:
• a framework
• a resource
• a template
• a case study
And a CTA: “Comment X and I’ll send it.”
We created:
1 lead magnet per person every week.
We also added:
• free tools on our website
• case studies
• higher quality content
• motion design videos
New hire:
1 Product Manager.
STEP 4: $75k to $150k MRR
We added new acquisition channels:
• X/Twitter : 1 post per day per founder
• B2B LinkedIn influencers
• Sponsoring niche newsletters
While continuing:
• Reddit
• outbound
• LinkedIn lead magnets
STEP 5: $150k to $250k+ MRR
Now we started scaling aggressively.
We added:
• Meta ads
• Google Ads
• a B2B influencer agency
• a UGC agency
• We redesigned the website.
We hired:
• Growth
• Sales
• Engineering
And we massively increased outbound volume through GojiberryAI.
Our scaling philosophy is :
More top of funnel
→ more demos
→ more sales calls
→ more revenue
That’s it.
I’m not saying this is the perfect strategy.
I’m just sharing exactly how we did it.
If you want to test GojiberryAI with a 14 day free trial instead of the standard 7 days:
Comment “GOJI” and I’ll send you a special access.

a guy in poland is getting rich teaching boomers how to use claude for their taxes and small businesses. clearing $80k/mo solo.
his model: $197 course (claude for tax prep), $97/mo accountability community, $1,500 1-on-1 setup call for higher-net-worth clients. all delivered in polish. all marketed via boomer-friendly facebook groups he joins as a participant first, posts in second.
no funnel, no email list, no twitter presence. all sales happen in the facebook groups directly or via dm.
(he doesn't have a personal brand. nobody in the ai content space has heard of him. he's not on twitter, instagram, or tiktok. his entire business is invisible to the cohort of operators trying to compete with him.)
operators trying to build courses for "the ai-curious creator class" are competing against thousands of identical offers.
operators teaching boomers how to do their taxes faster are competing against three other people who couldn't be bothered to translate the materials.
what audience is your current offer actually serving and how many other people are serving them.

𝕏 has always been the best source of financial news for traders and investors. Billions of dollars are allocated every day based on what people read on Timeline.
Today we're launching our new Cashtags feature in the US and Canada on iPhone, bringing real-time financial data to X.
Here's how it works:
1. When you search for or post a cashtag (or contract address), X will automatically suggest matching stocks or crypto tokens, so you can select the exact asset you had in mind.
2. Anyone who taps a Cashtag will see posts mentioning it along with its price chart—without ever leaving X.
This ensures that you're always matched to the chatter for the right stock or token.
Cashtags are just the first step in our commitment to be the best destination for the finance and crypto community.
