நவம்பர் 11, 2020-ல் எழுதியது. #மீள்பதிவு நண்பரொருவர் அண்மையில் அகால மரணமடைந்தார். இரண்டு பெண் குழந்தைகள். அவருக்கு 40+ வயதுதான். அவர் காலமான சில தினங்களில் அவர் வீட்டம்மாவுக்கு பிரச்னைகள் வர ஆரம்பித்தன. தினந்தோறும் குறைந்தபட்சம் ஒருவராவது அழைப்பார். “உங்க வீட்டுக்காரர் என்னிடம் கடன் வாங்கியிருந்தார். அதை எப்போது திருப்பித் தருவீர்கள்?”. இப்படி ஒன்றல்ல. .இரண்டல்ல.. சுமார் 15 பேர் வரை கேட்டார்கள். அந்தக் குடும்பத்தினருக்கு ஒன்றுமே புரியவில்லை. அவரது வங்கிக் கணக்கை எடுத்துப் பார்த்தால் அதில் மிகச் சொற்பமான தொகை மட்டுமே இருந்தது. சேமிப்பும் மிகக் குறைவு. மூன்றாண்டுகளுக்கு முன்பு புதிதாகத் தொழில் தொடங்குகிறேன் என்று கையில் இருந்த நிலம், நகை என அனைத்தையும் விற்றிருந்தார். செய்வதறியாது திகைத்து நின்றனர் அந்தக் குடும்பத்தினர். தயங்கியவாறே இது குறித்து என்னிடம் ஒரு நாள் சொன்னார் நண்பரின் மனைவி. கடன் கொடுத்ததாகச் சொல்பவர்களிடம் அதற்கான விபரங்கள் எதுவும் இருக்கிறதா என்று கேட்கச் சொன்னேன். எனக்குத் தெரிந்து நண்பர் எதுவாக இருந்தாலும் வங்கி வழிப் பரிமாற்றம்தான் செய்வார். எனவே அவரது வங்கிக் கணக்கு விபரங்களை எடுத்து ஆராய்ந்தோம். கடன் கொடுத்ததாகச் சொன்னவர்கள் எந்தத் தேதியில் எவ்வளவு கொடுத்தார்கள் என்பது போன்ற விபரங்களைக் கொடுத்தார்கள். பெரும்பாலும் அவை வங்கிப் பரிமாற்றமாகவே இருந்தது. அதே போல நண்பரின் வங்கிக் கணக்கிலிருந்து வேறு சில கணக்குகளுக்கு மொத்தமாக சில தொகைகள் போயிருந்தது. நண்பரின் வங்கி இணையச் சேவையில் உள் நுழைந்து அவற்றைப் பரிசோதிக்கலாம் என்று பார்த்தால் அதனுடைய கடவுச் சொல் அவரது மனைவிக்குத் தெரியவில்லை. நண்பர் இறந்த விபரத்தைச் சொல்லி வங்கிக் கணக்கை மூடவும் இல்லை. எனவே Reset password ஆப்ஷன் மூலமாக உள் நுழைந்து பார்த்தோம். Funds Transfer ஆப்ஷனில் பார்த்த போது ஒரு சில நண்பர்களின் கணக்குகளுக்கு தொகை மாற்றியிருப்பது தெரிய வந்தது. இன்னும் சில பெருந்தொகைகள் யார் என்று தெரியாத நபர்களின் கணக்குக்குச் சென்றிருந்தது. நண்பரின் போனில் தொடர்பு விபரங்களைப் பார்க்கலாம் என்றால் அதை ஸ்க்ரீன் லாக் செய்து வைத்திருந்தார். அதனுடைய கடவுச் சொல் அவரது மனைவிக்குத் தெரியவில்லை. எனவே உள் நுழைய முடியவில்லை. (வங்கி கடவுச் சொல் மீட்பின் போது வந்த குறுந்தகவலை லாக் ஸ்க்ரீனிலேயே பார்க்க முடிந்தது). ஒரு முயற்சி செய்து பார்ப்போம் என்று அவருடைய மின்னஞ்சல் கணக்கில் உள் நுழைந்து பார்க்கலாம் என்று சொன்னேன். அதற்கும் கடவுச் சொல் தெரியவில்லை. ஆனால் அதிர்ஷ்டவசமாக அவருடைய கம்ப்யூட்டரில் save password என்று வைத்திருந்தார். பெரும்பாலும் இப்படி வைப்பதை நான் ஊக்குவிப்பதில்லை. ஆனாலும் இங்கே அதுதான் உபயோகமானது. அவருடைய ஜிமெயில் கணக்கில் உள் நுழைந்து contacts.google.com பக்கத்தில் சென்று பார்த்த போது அத்தனை தொடர்பு விபரங்களும் இருந்தன. அதில் உள்ள பெயர்களையும், வங்கி பணப் பரிமாற்றத்தில் இருந்த பெயர்களையும் ஒப்பிட்டுப் பார்த்து அந்த எண்களுக்கு தொடர்பு கொண்டு பேசினால் பெரும்பாலானோர் அந்தத் தொகை அவர்களுக்கு வர வேண்டியது என்றே கூறினார்கள். அது உண்மையாகவும் இருக்கலாம். மிகச் சிலர் நண்பரிடம் கை மாற்றாக வாங்கியிருந்ததாகவும், விரைவிலேயே திரும்பத் தருவதாகவும் ஒப்புக் கொண்டார்கள். அவரது பழைய மின்னஞ்சல்களை சற்று ஆராய்ந்து பார்க்கச் சொன்னேன். அப்படிப் பார்த்ததில் நண்பர் சில Mutual fund SIP மற்றும் சேமிப்புகள் இருந்ததைப் பார்க்க முடிந்தது. தனியார் நிறுவனமொன்றில் டீமேட் கணக்கு வைத்திருந்தார். அதில் சில ஷேர்களும் இருந்தன. அப்படி, இப்படி என்று எல்லாவற்றையும் கூட்டிக் கழித்துப் பார்த்தால் நல்ல வேளையாக பெரிய அளவில் கையைக் கடிப்பது போலத் தெரியவில்லை. அவரது மனைவி அவற்றை சரி செய்துவிட்டார். இதில் நாம் கவனிக்க வேண்டிய விஷயங்கள் : * உங்கள் குடும்பத்தினரிடம் ரகசியம் காக்காதீர்கள். குறிப்பாக சின்ன அளவிலான கொடுக்கல், வாங்கல்களையும் அவர்களிடம் சொல்லி விடுங்கள். * வரவு, செலவு கணக்கு எழுதப் பழகுங்கள். என்னதான் மொபைல், கம்ப்யூட்டரில் கணக்குகளை நிர்வகிக்கலாம் என்றாலும், நோட்டுப் புத்தகம் ஒன்றில் அதனை எழுதுவது ரொம்பவே நல்லது. * முதலீடுகள், அடமானங்கள், கடன்கள் என்று ஒன்றையும் விட்டு விட வேண்டாம். தினமும் தூங்கச் செல்வதற்கு முன் அன்றைய தேதிக்கானது அனைத்தையும் நோட்டுப் புத்தகத்தில் எழுதி அப்டேட் செய்து விட்டு தூங்கச் செல்லுங்கள். * அப்படி எதை எழுதி வைத்தாலும் தெளிவாக எழுதி வைக்கவும். * மொபைல் போன் ஸ்க்ரீன் லாக் என்னவென்று உங்கள் வீட்டம்மாவிடம் சொல்லி வைக்கவும். அப்படி இல்லையென்றால் ஒரு சிறு நோட்டுப் புத்தகத்தில் உங்கள் இணைய கணக்கு விபரங்கள், அவற்றின் கடவுச் சொற்கள் ஆகியவற்றை விபரமாக எழுதி வைத்து விடுங்கள். * டைரி எழுதும் பழக்கம் இருந்தால் இன்னும் நல்லது. அப்படி அந்தப் பழக்கம் இருந்தால் அதில் சும்மா கவிதை மட்டும் எழுதி வைக்காமல் அன்றாட வரவு, செலவு விபரங்களையும் எழுதி விடவும். இதெல்லாம் பழக்கம் இல்லையென்றால் ஆரம்பத்தில் செய்வதற்குச் சிரமமாக இருக்கும். ஆனால் பழகி விட்டால் எளிதாகி விடும். அப்புறம் முக்கியமான விஷயம்.. இப்படியெல்லாம் எழுதி வைக்கும் நோட்டுகளை எங்கேயும் ஒளித்து வைத்து விடாதீர்கள். அவற்றை உங்கள் குடும்பத்தினரின் பார்வையில் படுவது போல வைக்கவும். #எனக்குத்_தோன்றியது... பிற்சேர்க்கை : 19-03-2026 இதே போன்று இன்னொரு நண்பரின் நண்பருக்கும் நிகழ்ந்திருக்கிறது. அந்தக் குடுமப்த்தினரும் அவருடைய வரவு, செலவு கணக்குகள் குறித்துத் தெரியாமல் தவித்துப் போயினர். இது போன்ற சமயங்களில் கடன் கொடுத்தவர்களாக இருந்தாலும் சரி.. கடன் வாங்கியவர்களாக இருந்தாலும் சரி.. வங்கி வழிப் பரிமாற்றம், அது குறித்த குறுந்தகவல்கள், மின்னஞ்சல் பரிமாற்றங்கள் இருந்தால் சிக்கல் இல்லை. அப்படி எதுவும் இல்லையென்றால் இரு தரப்புக்குமே தேவையற்ற சங்கடங்கள்.

The youth see merit in backing someone new. By taking on the two major alliances, TVK positions itself as a viable option for those seeking change. DMK and NTK are the two parties likely to be directly affected by TVK’s move. In urban pockets like Chennai, even the BJP and AIADMK could see some vote erosion. From an NDA standpoint, it’s just as well that an alliance with TVK didn’t materialize. Instead of taking potshots at Vijay, NDA leaders should focus their firepower on the DMK. There is a clear anti-establishment mood in the state. With strong candidates and sharp campaigning, the AIADMK-NDA can present itself as the stabler, safer, and smarter alternative to the DMK.

Wasn't prepared for what I read. - Senior citizens sold policies they don't need and can't use. - Group policies dressed up as retail plans because the advisor's commission was higher. - Premium hikes of 50, 60% with zero explanation and nobody answering the phone. But one case is stuck in my head. A large aggregator told their customer - "don't disclose your heart condition, it'll increase your premium." Customer trusted them. Stayed quiet. Got admitted for pneumonia. Claim came. Rejected. Pre-existing condition not disclosed. That advisor is nowhere now. Because selling was the job. Claims were never part of it. This person is fighting alone. Against an insurer. Because someone they paid to trust gave them deliberately wrong advice. Not ignorance. Convenience. And this is only health insurance. On the electricity consumption of an induction stove vs gas consumption of a gas stove, relative costs etc. there seems to be some concerns on possible high electricity costs. I did some simple physics calculations. I assumed the following: Take a 500 gm stainless steel flat bottomed vessel, holding a litre of water at 30 deg centigrade. The goal is to heat this water to 100 deg centigrade boiling. How much of heat energy is required for boiling this water is calculated using the specific heat of water and the specific heat of stainless steel and their respective mass. I used ChatGPT to find out the efficiency of a gas stove vs the efficiency of an induction stove. ChatGPT suggests that a gas stove is around 35-45% efficient whereas an induction stove is 85-90% efficient. I used a 40% efficiency figure (mid) for gas stove and 85% (low) for induction. The gas used to boil water comes to 17 gm of LPG using the thermal value of the LPG, efficiency and the heat energy required to boil one litre of water. The equivalent electricity required is 0.1 unit. So what is the cost comparison? If we use unsubsidised cost of a 14.2 kg domestic cylinder of about 950 Rs, cost of boiling in the gas stove is 1.14 Rs. If we cost each unit of electricity as Rs 10, cost of boiling in the induction stove is 1.00 Rs. It is clear that the induction cost is lesser for the same task. For commercial gas cylinder, it is obvious that electricity is much less expensive.

I must confess that until recently I had never heard of Phool Dei, a spring festival that was celebrated yesterday in the villages of Uttarakhand. Children gather fresh flowers from the hills and go from house to house placing them on doorsteps, offering a blessing for the household: “Phool Dei, Chhamma Dei, Deni Dwar, Bhar Bhakar…” roughly wishing the home prosperity. In return they receive sweets. It reminded me a little of Halloween in the U.S., where children go door to door saying “trick or treat.” But what a lovely contrast. Here the children arrive not threatening a prank, or asking first, but giving first. Flowers. In an age when we speak so much about environmental consciousness, this graceful celebration of spring and nature deserves to be far more widely known. Just as Holi travelled across India and the world, perhaps Phool Dei should too. For me, the children of Uttarakhand are my #MondayMotivation

I have been posting a thread of tweets on my interactions with @flipkartsupport regarding the purchase of a Prestige induction stove. They have been teasing me for the past one week refusing to deliver the product asking me to cancel it. Today I received a msg from Flipkart to contact a number for the said delivery. I did, and the automated voice message directed me to enter the pin number given in the message to contact the delivery person. I did so. Thrice or so the delivery man did not pick up, and again thrice or so everything went dead, and again thrice or so the automated voice told me the pin was WRONG! Who could have given me the wrong pin? And why was the customer care voice message inconsistent? Who is doing the manipulation or are they simply complacent? Why are the Flipkart people so conniving and for what? Why are they losing their credibility for a 1k worth of merchandise? We order merchandise from them in good faith and we expect straight forward dealings. From now on I shall boycott Flipkart. Yes, I was, only one among millions of their customers. Serious scams have been happening in IRCTC Ticket booking app for the last few months. Whenever a common person tries to book a Tatkal ticket, the app stops working till tickets are available. When confirmed tickets are not available, then the app starts working. This is happening in all the trains of Sealdah-New Jalpaiguri -New Coochbehar -New Alipurduar route. When you try to book a Tatkal ticket, this pop up comes again and again. @RailMadad do something. Stop scammers from stealing tickets from common people.

@HinduVoice_in Switch to the RailOne app instead of using this old IRCTC app. I don't think they would resolve any technical glitches in this Old app. So it's better if they switch to the RailOne app.

I ordered a prestige induction stove on Flipkart on the ninth of this month. It was to be delivered on the 10th. For the past three days I am getting messages that due to some reason it could not be delivered, and it would be delivered the following day. Today when I tracked the delivery person he says I won't get it delivered because my address is wrong. He asks me to cancel the order and order again. Why would I when it is the very same address to which Flipkart has been delivering my orders for the past 2+ years? I refused. I contacted the customer care and presented my case. Within no time my queries got deleted and no one came on line although I wanted to speak to someone there. I took a screenshot. And I am waiting to see if the induction stove would be delivered atleast tomorrow.
