Indian engineers in the US are one layoff away from packing their entire life into a single bag and leaving the country in 60 days. Of course they’re more compliant than their counterparts.

@liberalistorder @Noahpinion His administration strongly pushed the lie that Silicon Valley wasn’t “diverse” even though there is no data to support such an assertion. One can only come to the conclusion he hated White and Asian men.

A lot of people are going to learn that U.S. civil rights law forbids discrimination against white men
New York Magazine@NYMag

A white male New York ‘Times’ employee filed a complaint with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission alleging the paper had discriminated against him by not giving him a promotion because he is a white male. On Tuesday, the EEOC, now controlled by a Trump appointee who has vowed to help wage the president’s war against DEI culture, filed a civil-rights lawsuit against the ‘Times’ arguing that the paper’s efforts to satisfy its diversity goals amounted to “unlawful employment practices.” The paper itself was first to break the news of the suit but did not name the employee who made the complaint. Reporters at the paper have been scrambling to figure out the employee’s identity, driven in part by bafflement that one of their own colleagues would sell out the paper to the administration, which has used tools of the federal government to attack the press. “This has been kind of a shitshow behind the scenes — people trying to figure out who the aggrieved person is,” said another ‘Times’ staffer. The release of the complaint on Tuesday narrowed the speculation to Bryant Rousseau, a senior editor and producer on the ‘Times’’s international desk who has been with the paper for more than a decade. Traffic deaths have not gone down in any city where Waymo is operating. Zero lives have been saved. That said, we will know in ~ 5-10 years if Waymo is better than the best human drivers (they only release data that compares them to the worst human drivers).

Only reason women are leaving these men is because they’re acting like they’re Tate without Tate money. Imagine your wife being tired after a 9 hour shift at work and coming home to a man smoking a cigar telling her to shut up. Issue with the manosphere is it got too many average dudes thinking they have the right to treat women like shit. Unless your girl doesn’t have to work. Gets to go on shopping sprees and fly first class. You’re in an average relationship. She will leave you. You are not a high value man. She can find someone to replace you. Don’t be delusional. Just be happy.

People don’t realize how toast Seattle is because their median income is still high due to legacy corporations that opened in the city 20 years ago Every major Seattle corporation is cutting jobs in Seattle to expand in the South and Seattle is pushing 6% unemployment

The thing is that Republicans are literally just right about everything they say regarding the incompetence of progressive Democrats There is not a single criticism the GOP makes about Portland, Seattle, and California which is incorrect. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news

@JesusFerna7026 The answer is obvious. Korea's human capital is higher, because of genetics and culture, with the former being more important. Preindustrial societies did not rely on IQ to the same degree.

A fundamental lesson from my posts these last two weeks on modernization, industrial policy, and development is that development economics should be about understanding why South Korea got rich but Bolivia did not. The current field has largely given up on that question. Sharply identified RCTs on small micro programs are a fine way to publish in the AER and get tenure at a fancy university, but a profession that knows everything about microfinance impact evaluations and almost nothing about industrialization has misallocated its own intellectual capital on a pretty heroic scale. Four images of Seoul:

@_asmodai @PaganTech @YIMBYLAND What makes your proposals any different from every other starry eyed DSA socialist elected to office in SF who thinks more support, higher budgets, and housing first policies will finally solve the homelessness crisis. I used to have sympathy when I lived in the suburbs.

@PaganTech @_asmodai @YIMBYLAND You're almost there. A) What incentive does the SF gov't/nonprofits have to reduce homelessness? They stop getting paid B) Giving these people homes does not solve the problem. 90% of SF homeless people are not the hardworking down on their luck types that would benefit from this

@daytimename @_asmodai @YIMBYLAND A 2 bedroom prefabricated home from China costs less than $10,000. Based on the 2024 federally mandated Point-in-Time count, there were approximately 8,328 homeless individuals in San Fran. So, for less than $84 million they could’ve permanently housed every homeless person!
