Spare me the sudden-ambition act. This looks less like grief-stricken duty and more like a classic Trojan horse, get the appointment under the banner of family continuity and “just filling the rest of the year,” then pivot the second the ink is dry and start shopping a full-term run. The whole point of the interim move was to avoid locking the party into a rushed Graham dynasty primary and give Trump room to pick. Now she’s the one forcing the sprint, forcing the juggle of Senate votes and an August primary, and potentially boxing out everyone else while national Republicans scramble to figure out whether they’re allowed to notice. If this was the plan all along, then the “fabulous tribute” talk was pure theater. And if it wasn’t the plan, then the speed of the pivot is even more revealing.
