I’m not an advocate or defender of evangelical marriage books. However, I don’t think that it’s a matter of evangelical marriage books OR Sheila Wray Gregoire. There are plenty of other resources out there. Personally, I think Stan Tatkin and Sue Johnson are the authors that actually help people improve their marriages. If you just look at the way she reviews evangelical marriage books, it reveals what’s really up with Sheila Wray Gregoire. It’s never, “this part was sound, but that part was not.” I think she would be more helpful to more people if she were to take this approach. But instead, she dislikes and criticizes pretty much every word of every evangelical marriage book she reviews, including “and” and “the.”

Sheila Wray Gregoire has become one of the most influential voices in the Christian conversation surrounding sex, marriage, and evangelical culture. But do her conclusions actually stand up to biblical and logical scrutiny? My latest with @The_real_annek

@daveyInExile @alisa_childers @The_real_annek She is a postmodern feminist larping as an evangelical Christian. Whenever there is a conflict between Christianity and postmodern feminism, she always seems to come down on the side of postmodern feminism, tossing aside Christian teachings.

@alisa_childers @The_real_annek She speaks with forked tongue. Her feminism occludes her Christianity so much that her defense of contempt for God’s order is on clear display.

@dcgilbert @sheffiela01 @CarlaPyle2 @alisa_childers @The_real_annek Correct me if I am wrong, but i think snowball sampling is acceptable in the discipline, so long as other steps are taken to mitigate some of the obvious problems (I don't know if she took these measures, btw) #_" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">methods.sagepub.com/ency/edvol/the…

I read the article, but I remain unconvinced. It seems like pseudo-profound BS to me. I believe the truth is that she has had some of her work peer reviewed and published, but not the surveys used for all her books. It was a specific subset of participants and it only came some years after she published her books and came to her conclusions. More importantly, there are inherent generalizability problems with snowball sampling. Yet Sheila Wray Gregoire’s entire career is based upon generalizing based upon these surveys.

That’s a serious criticism of her methodology. She uses the snowball method of recruiting participants. Recruit some people and then get them to recruit their friends. She ends us with a set of like-minded participants which leads to biased outcomes. Notice how all her surveys end up supporting her pre-existing positions. Funny how that happens.

@CarlaPyle2 @alisa_childers @The_real_annek I think her survey methodology is suspect. She recruits people into her surveys in such a way that she only ends up with discontented women. I think the term for it is snowball sampling.

@alisa_childers @The_real_annek Although I disagree with so much of her theology and political ideology, her research is solid and you lose credibility when you say otherwise. Her scholarship is impeccable so you look silly when you don’t have a good faith basis to discredit it.

Talbotton is a town that never really recovered from the Civil War. Before the war, it had a lot going for it. The first session of the Georgia Supreme Court was held in Talbottonin 1846. Lazarus Strauss, who went on later to own Macy’s, opened a dry goods store in Talbotton in 1854, but moved away after the war.

Been driving the backroads of Georgia the last 2 days-I’ve seen pretty much every corner of this state through the yrs & to me, the still rural, lower Piedmont away from the interstates is the loveliest part of GA. Here’s the prettiest church in GA-Zion Episcopal near Talbotton.

BEDTIME TIPS: WIVES: Your sleeping attire is important to your husband. Surprise him occasionally with something visually pleasing. 😍 HUSBANDS: Shower & brush your teeth before bed ... no one wants to snuggle with someone who smells like an old goat. 😁

Modern marriage is no longer about building together. Many women want the benefits of marriage, but none of the responsibilities. They want a wedding, not a marriage. They want a provider, but they do not want to submit. They want a loyal man, but they want to keep their options open. And the worst part is, society teaches men that if the marriage fails, it is always the man’s fault. Men are told to “do more,” “communicate more,” “pay more,” and “understand her more.” But nobody tells women to respect, appreciate, and protect the man’s peace. That is why many men fear marriage today, because they fear being punished for trying.

This post from Sheila Gregoire is making the rounds and is an example of terrible logic...Guilt by association, and Non Sequitur. By this logic, one could say, "Jim Jones recommend the Bible. Evangelicals need to grapple with the fact that the Bible is useful to cult leaders."

Leftist hysteria about "victim blaming" effectively made it taboo to give young women even the most basic advice about how to prevent themselves from becoming a victim of sexual assault. Tell a girl to avoid the bad part of town? "Victim blaming!" Tell a girl not to get wasted and crash on her male friend's sofa? "Victim blaming!" Tell a girl not to go back to a guy's apartment if she's not looking to hook up? "Victim blaming!" This was the culture I grew up in, and as a result I naively put myself in some very risky situations which I'm lucky I came out of unscathed! For the sake of protecting our daughters, we have to reject this insane anti-"victim blaming" mentality.
