Nearly a year ago, I pointed out that this was a problem. Now, during Holy Week, Bishop Barron flew to DC to applaud a speech in which Donald Trump was compared to the crucified and resurrected Jesus Christ. I think we've gone well past the point of plausible deniability.

Over the past couple of months, US Catholics have witnessed an extremely prominent and popular bishop publicly sell out his reputation to become a political puppet. This has unfolded in real time. Many are defending it. I can't find words, except to say it is deeply evil.

As we begin the Triduum, #Jesuit Fr. Gerry Blaszczak, retreat and spiritual director at Gonzaga Eastern Point Retreat House, tells us that we must agree to be washed by our Lord, to be cleansed of our illusions of self-sufficiency, and of our reluctance to be loved by Him. #Lent

I have no sources whatsoever, and it is certainly possible that this is true, but I would think there's a shot of Roche becoming Grand Master of Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre. Current head, Cdl. Filoni turns 80 in two weeks, so someone (likely a cardinal) will take over.
Damian Thompson@holysmoke

Arthur Roche leaving Divine Worship to become patron of the Order of Malta, according to a Vatican source. If true, great opportunity for Pope Leo to appoint a non-sociopath to supervise liturgy.

@holysmoke Last year, even though Francis was not presiding at the altar, he was reading the presidential prayers from the chair, so he wore the cope, meaning all the concelebrants, including Prevost last year would simply be wearing chasubles.

Didn't want to try to compete with the actual cosmos-altering announcement, but on the morn of the Annunciation my wife delivered some "good news" we wanted to share: Our baby girl Adelaide Marie Tadros Liedl was born! She is *lovely*. A self-indulgent first-time father thread:

I'm genuinely confused. Is the insinuation that the man who he replaces, Archbishop Iannone, who now continues to serve in the curia as the Prefect of the Dicastery for Bishops is incompetent? The only other person no longer in the Curia is Card. Kraiewski. Was he incompetent?

@colmflynnire Congratulations to you. You are a very good reporter. You asked great questions of these people, leading to a really substantive conversation. In a divisive society that too often slips into disrespectful rhetoric, you modeled serious journalism and great respect. Everyone wins.

Belgium’s publicly funded youth radio station, Studio Brussel (VRT), featured a sketch in which its breakfast presenters smashed various items on air, including a statue of Our Lady and Jesus. I asked if they were concerned it would cause offence, and if they would do the same to a symbol of Islam or Judaism.

Speaking publicly for the first time since the outbreak of U.S. and Israel-Iran war, Cardinal Pierbattista Pizzaballa said the use of God’s name to justify war is a grave sin, stressing that God is present with those who suffer and die in conflict, not with those who exploit religion for political ends. “The abuse and manipulation of God’s name to justify this and any other war is the gravest sin we can commit at this time,” the prelate said. “War is first and foremost political and has very material interests, like most wars.” Speaking via video link from Jerusalem at a March 15 webinar organized by the International Oasis Foundation, Cardinal Pizzaballa, the Latin patriarch of Jerusalem, warned against what he described as “pseudo-religious language.” Read more @OSVNews osvnews.com/cardinal-pizza…

The Sacrament of Reconciliation restores our unity with God through the forgiveness of sins and the infusion of sanctifying grace. This generates the inner unity of the person and unity with the Church. It fosters peace and unity within the human family. One might ask: do those Christians who bear serious responsibility in armed conflicts have the humility and courage to make a serious examination of conscience and to go to confession?
