@Loriagne2 That’s gross profit. Take out the overheads, vehicle warranty, vehicle preparation costs etc and the actual profit is far lower. Look at how often dealerships go out of business, it’s not as lucrative as people think.

@danielgoyal @DesignAndMake_ You’re ignoring the index linked pension value. A self employed worker getting £30ph to cover everything can only dream of saving this much for retirement. They’d need a pot worth hundreds of thousands to be even close.

@DesignAndMake_ Think you misunderstand me…absolutely no criticism of the painter - I think £30 per hour is fine. I just think paying a doctor or nurse - who literally are making life and death decisions - £17/hr (+26 days annual leave) is weird.

I recently paid my painter £30 per hour. He did a good job - better than I could have. It then dawned on me that he earns more than the vast majority of healthcare and education staff. Quite something, how little we value those that look after our lives and our kids’ futures?

@danielgoyal £30ph is not a lot when you’re self employed. Govt worker on £15ph will be better off in the long run, assuming they pay into the pension.
