@Parents4RJ @MariettaCitySch Is this teacher willing to share the data? This is not a surprise to anyone advocating for SOR aligned instruction at tier 1 but we need data to support the argument.

On an upcoming episode of Literacy Now: We visited Allison Taylor, a 2nd grade teacher in @MariettaCitySch, GA, and she documented an  almost 60% drop in bad behavior after implementing Science of Reading based UFLI + Wit & Wisdom. Teachers could teach. Kids learned to read. Turns out literacy might be the most powerful behavior intervention we have. @DyslexiaIDA @ParentsUnion @Reading_League @UFLiteracy

@JamesAFurey I would be happy to discuss developmentally appropriate behaviors for students who are underserved. Many are struggling readers. No need to blame the students. Provide effective evidence-based instruction and watch them bloom

Why are the kids who miss school for “migraines” almost always the same as those who sit in class and don’t do anything? Makes me wonder…

There seems to be a rebirth of education-related investigative journalism, and it can't come soon enough. I've been interviewed by several reporters who have a nose for stories... and just need with details, connections, etc. Pressure bursts pipes. Keep it up!

@ehanford They made a lot of money on the backs of vulnerable children. Stole their bright academic futures and blamed families and students for poor performance. If they can prove this in MA, more states will follow. What a legacy

@KJWinEducation Thanks for this post. Unbelievably powerful but not a surprise. Educational systems gave failed our kids and left them with little hope for a future. We need to do better

I posted an old video of kids in a Scotland prison, over half found to be dyslexic. A comment was posted from a former inmates' relative. A reminder that behind all of this literacy work, there are real children and families (of all stripes) that are impacted.

@ehanford @CLPeak @KQED Tragically, no one feels accountable to the students who become casualties of ineffective curricular choices. For the large ed publishing companies making $$$, it has never been about kids or literacy

I’m excited to share the news! @NancyYoung_ and I co-edited a book about Nancy’s wonderful infographic. Numerous chapter authors provide evidence-based guidance to support ALL learners in reading and writing. Dr. Reid Lyon called it “a masterpiece”! benchmarkeducation.com/y57360-climbin…

I wish schools would teach us the essentials to life. Budgeting, how to file taxes, process of buying homes, cooking, life decisions, investing, generational wealth, single to married, soon to be mom or dad, and credit. These should be basic requirements before choosing a major
