O bispo de Guarulhos (SP), dom Edmilson Amador Caetano defendeu ontem (25) em nota a autorização dada à terceira edição da chamada lavagem da catedral de Guarulhos, ligada a religiões de matriz africana. “Quero lembrar aos católicos, que vivemos sob a orientação do Concílio Vaticano II, que na Declaração Nostra Aetate fala das sementes do Verbo de Deus presentes em todas as expressões religiosas não cristãs, bem como da necessidade de vivermos em espírito de fraternidade com todas as religiões”, disse o bispo. “Além disso, o mesmo Concílio Vaticano II, na Declaração Dignitatis Humanae fala magistralmente sobre o direito da liberdade religiosa a todas as comunidades da sociedade”. A terceira edição da chamada lavagem da catedral de Guarulhos ocorreu em 21 de março, dia Nacional das Tradições Afro-brasileiras “em um espaço público (mesmo que a frente da igreja pertença à catedral), isto é, um espaço que é comum a todos”, disse dom Edmilson Amador. “Este ato foi pacífico e respeitosamente combinado com a Igreja, para que não houvesse importunação durante alguma celebração na catedral” e “as portas da catedral permaneceram abertas e o espaço celebrativo católico foi totalmente respeitado”, pontuou.
