This is a damning of democracy and they should be ashamed of themselves.
Not one apology was given to Philadelphians from any of them. The arrogance and brovado displayed lacked the humanity and consideration that should be expected of our leaders.
Real leadership demands of honesty and humility. We didn't get that at this absurd and bizzare press conference today.

This is what happens when you let billionaires control your urban planning and buy your government officials and politicians. They get what they want and screw over everyone else. Love to see the politicians spin this one...

There is more news we are expecting to come out in the coming hours and days, but for now let's celebrate because they will not be building an arena in the heart of our city!

@KendraPHL @NicORourkePHL Thank you both for your leadership and clarity!

@HydratedMatthew @RepKrajewski You are wrong. They have said several times and all along that they will be looking for state and federal funding.

English

@debbie_wei @RepKrajewski He’s fighting against state funds being used, but the team never wanted to use (and won’t be using) state funds. Or am I wrong?

stop the lies.
it is obvious that anyone, including union workers, saying a sixers arena will bring "more business" to chinatown are prioritizing TEMPORARY work in building the arena but leaving out that it will carelessly DESTROY the surrounding area.

She hid our reply, so let's say it here:
This is a sellout deal and you know it @cmninaahmad. You caved to billionaires, sold out the people you claimed to represent, and barely got two dimes to rub together for it. What an embarrassment.
Councilmember Dr. Nina Ahmad (At-Large)@cmninaahmad
Compromise can lead to meaningful progress. I worked tirelessly to include meaningful amendments to the proposed Sixers arena package and introduced a bill today to establish a Community Land Trust to protect Chinatown from unchecked development. My statements below.

BREAKING: Philadelphia City Council just voted in favor of 76ers Arena to get out of committee.
Not everyone voted in favor of it. Some purposely ditched the vote.
Never forget. Remember this day. Remember this vote.
Final passage is next Thursday, but they officially have the votes for it to happen.
The 76ers Arena is happening, y'all.

A shameful and blatant sell out that makes it clear who Philly's city council works for. The long-term guarantees of this project are Josh Harris and a few others getting even richer and Chinatown getting dismantled. It sucks.

Labor leader Ryan Boyer’s board post at Sixers partner’s investment firm comes under scrutiny--he's in conflict of interest and making $$$$$ #chinatown #unions #construction #Philly cc @Rue_Landau @CouncilmemberJG inquirer.com/politics/phila… via @phillyinquirer

@sbcmw @anna_orso Whose timeline is this? If I were on council I would be pissed at all the time I am wasting waiting for people who want something from me. Doesn’t Council need to work on schools and Septa and what constituents need and stuff like that? 🙄

City Council and the 76ers continue to spar over community benefits funding as arena talks come down to the wire

@denisethewriter @sixers @PhillyMayor Ummm…I think each developer personally is worth $2-6 billion -after a google search. Their private equity firms are worth much more than that. They are saying $100 billion for taking all the properties on Market Street. A $300 million CBA should be the floor, not the ceiling.
English

RANDOM THOUGHT: One of the things I've learned through covering the #76Place hearings is that the @sixers are worth a whole lot of money. About $4 billion to be exact.
So my question is, why did @phillymayor ask for just $50 million for the #communitybenefitsagreement?

@debbie_wei Bio on SERGH founder Jonathan Fascitelli already reads in the past tense: "He led the 76ers new 1.5 bn arena development..." What GALL! Read bio for yourself at SEREGH - sports and entertainment real estate development. seregh.com/team @PhillyInquirer @CouncilmemberJG
