This week celebrating the Chinatown community and all of the powerful organizing that has made it crystal clear that our city must be shaped by its people and not by billionaires.

Today the No Arena coalition let everyone know what we think about the Center City Sixers arena no longer haunting our city. This coalition is made up of people from all across the city, from all different backgrounds, who came together to fight for a city that works for everyone

This is a damning of democracy and they should be ashamed of themselves. Not one apology was given to Philadelphians from any of them. The arrogance and brovado displayed lacked the humanity and consideration that should be expected of our leaders. Real leadership demands of honesty and humility. We didn't get that at this absurd and bizzare press conference today.

On the 76ers news conference: The fact that Mayor Parker & Council Pres Johnson didn't acknowledge they have egg on their faces and, even more importantly, didn't acknowledge the pain & turmoil the Chinatown community was put through as a result of this process is mind-boggling🧵

This is what happens when you let billionaires control your urban planning and buy your government officials and politicians. They get what they want and screw over everyone else. Love to see the politicians spin this one... inquirer.com/news/philadelp…

@debbie_wei @RepKrajewski He’s fighting against state funds being used, but the team never wanted to use (and won’t be using) state funds. Or am I wrong?

The arena is a bad deal for Philly and will have irrevocable impacts on the Chinatown community. As a legislator, I will continue to oppose spending state dollars on this project and fight for the proposals we truly need to invest in our city and push back against displacement.

stop the lies. it is obvious that anyone, including union workers, saying a sixers arena will bring "more business" to chinatown are prioritizing TEMPORARY work in building the arena but leaving out that it will carelessly DESTROY the surrounding area. #NoArena #SaveChinatown

She hid our reply, so let's say it here: This is a sellout deal and you know it @cmninaahmad. You caved to billionaires, sold out the people you claimed to represent, and barely got two dimes to rub together for it. What an embarrassment.
Councilmember Dr. Nina Ahmad (At-Large)@cmninaahmad

Compromise can lead to meaningful progress. I worked tirelessly to include meaningful amendments to the proposed Sixers arena package and introduced a bill today to establish a Community Land Trust to protect Chinatown from unchecked development. My statements below.

BREAKING: Philadelphia City Council just voted in favor of 76ers Arena to get out of committee. Not everyone voted in favor of it. Some purposely ditched the vote. Never forget. Remember this day. Remember this vote. Final passage is next Thursday, but they officially have the votes for it to happen. The 76ers Arena is happening, y'all.

A shameful and blatant sell out that makes it clear who Philly's city council works for. The long-term guarantees of this project are Josh Harris and a few others getting even richer and Chinatown getting dismantled. It sucks.

@sbcmw @anna_orso Whose timeline is this? If I were on council I would be pissed at all the time I am wasting waiting for people who want something from me. Doesn’t Council need to work on schools and Septa and what constituents need and stuff like that? 🙄

@denisethewriter @sixers @PhillyMayor Ummm…I think each developer personally is worth $2-6 billion -after a google search. Their private equity firms are worth much more than that. They are saying $100 billion for taking all the properties on Market Street. A $300 million CBA should be the floor, not the ceiling.
