Will the new data that terrestrial carbon uptake has unexpectedly stalled lead those climatologists who misleading claimed if #netzero was reached tomorrow that warming would soon stop, now revisit that claim? Probably not, as they were already ignoring how the models didn't include methane and that the modellers warned about assumptions on terrestrial carbon uptake. Lying to the world on an existential issue in order to be friendly to capital and elites has been one of the gravest crimes against humanity. For some professionals in the field of social change, #collapse anticipation must be characterised as fatalist. They demonstrate willful blindness to both personal testimony and psychological research that illustrates the radicalising effect of collapse anticipation. Their stance might be to maintain their own identity, worldview and emotional stability. But by misinforming their audiences, they rob them of opportunities to process difficult emotions, find deeper resolve, and explore ways of contributing in a new era of societal disruption and breakdown. Just as bad, the silencing of this topic within civil society means the strategic planning for this new era is left to bankers, militaries and security agencies (who have been gaming scenarios of #societalcollapse for years). So there are consequences if we leave influential #moodsplaining unchallenged. Unfortunately, any public challenge can be awkward to do, as it involves pointing to psychological structures. Since 2019 psychologists have told me that it is impossible to do that in public.
