With the current Cruise situation, the #selfdriving vehicle ecosystem is going through a pivotal moment. Building trust is hard. Rebuilding trust is harder. A big part of building trust involves Communicating safety. Now more than ever, the ecosystem needs to come together and adopt an open and transparent mechanism to communicate safety. My respect for @Waymo increased manyfold today with this. Still need to get playing with @Waymo's Waymax to understand more about its capabilities, but releasing a lightweight simulator for the wider #selfdriving ecosystem is a BIG bold step. @volvocars's esmini is the closest I can think of as something similar. esmini has a huge fan following & will be interesting how it fares with Waymax... @Waymo's step reiterates why the safety of #AutonomousVehicles needs to be precompetitive. At @SafetyPool4AV & @wmgwarwick, we applaud this effort.. #simulation #testing
