Only one chance in this lifetime… Like watching sunset at the beach from the most foreign seat in the cosmos, I couldn’t resist a cell phone video of Earthset. You can hear the shutter on the Nikon as @Astro_Christina is hammering away on 3-shot brackets and capturing those exceptional Earthset photos through the 400mm lens. @AstroVicGlover was in window 3 watching with @Astro_Jeremy next to him. I could barely see the Moon through the docking hatch window but the iPhone was the perfect size to catch the view…this is uncropped, uncut with 8x zoom which is quite comparable to the view of the human eye. Enjoy.

Absolutely historic piece of science here. With Melissa being analyzed at 165kts (190 mph), it ties Allen 1980 as the strongest Hurricane ever measured in the Atlantic basin by wind speed. Additionally, the minimum central pressure has been held at 892mb, making this more intense than Allen and the most intense tropical cyclone by pressure in the last 20 years. (Tying Labor Day 1935 as the 3rd most intense on record) Incredible.

I’ll never get over how if Melissa took the Kgn/Middle Jamaica path, all of life would look so different right now

NHC has completed its post-analysis and Tropical Cyclone Report for Hurricane #Melissa. Melissa, one of the strongest hurricanes on record in the Atlantic basin, reached category 5 intensity (on the Saffir-Simpson Hurricane Wind Scale) with a minimum central pressure of 892 mb and brought catastrophic wind and storm surge impacts to portions of western Jamaica. Melissa’s slow motion also produced heavy rainfall and catastrophic flood impacts across portions of the Greater Antilles. As of the release of the report, Melissa is responsible for 95 fatalities. The report is available at nhc.noaa.gov/data/tcr/AL132… All reports for the 2025 Atlantic hurricane season can be found at nhc.noaa.gov/data/tcr/index…

#StarNews: The Education Ministry is advising administrators that students should be allowed to wear jackets to school, whether or not they are part of the standard uniform, as the island experiences a cold front. READ MORE: jamaica-star.com/article/news/2…

Strong winds associated with a cold front have caused power outages in sections of several parishes, with restoration efforts now underway. In a release on Tuesday, the Jamaica Public Service (JPS) said the adverse weather conditions have affected electricity supply in parts of Hanover, St Ann, the Corporate Area, St Catherine and Clarendon. jamaicaobserver.com/2026/02/03/sev…

🥶EXTREME SOUTH FLORIDA COLD!🥶 UPDATE: The National Weather Service in Miami has issued their first ever EXTREME COLD WATCH for parts of South #Florida, and even a Freeze Watch farther south, as wind chills could reach in the MID TEENS! Stay warm! #wx #FLwx

This is pretty incredible. Not only are ocean-effect flurries possible in western Florida late Saturday into Sunday, but it could snow over the ocean nearly to the Bahamas! On the backside of this weekend's potent storm, air from the Arctic will swirl across the Gulf on Saturday night, stretching down the Floridian Peninsula and causing wind chills to reach the 20s, teens and single digits in the state. As that freezing air glides over much warmer ocean waters, enough atmospheric instability may be sparked to cause Gulf-effect snow in a stretch from Apalachicola to Tampa — in a similar way that lake-effect snow forms near the Great Lakes. If a few flakes fly across this zone, it would be rare, but not unprecedented. Early Sunday, the air may be cold enough for snow to fall over the ocean about 100 miles north of the Bahamas. Believe it or not, it has snowed there before: Flurries were reported in Freeport in January 1977.
