if you’re a winning player, you should almost always want the straddle on. won’t my big blind per hour go down? yep doesn’t my edge decrease when shorter stacked? yep won’t my maneuverability post flop plummet? yep you know what doesn’t go down? your win rate. in *almost* every scenario, provided you have an edge in the game: if the game gets bigger, your win rate goes up. ps: there’s a time NOT to put the straddle on. say the 2 biggest donators in the game are uncomfortable playing bigger, and will most likely rack up or play super tight if the straddle goes on. in that case, keep it off! this is the exception though, not the rule.

Wow, I assumed it would be for sure Castillo but they are clearly keeping him away from a road start. Two nights ago, Gilbert threw 34 pitches for 2 scoreless relief innings. Five days ago, he threw 85 pitches for 6 innings of one-run ball. A gamble, but they’re going for upside here.

@padrespod That’s not a good middle ground because that means Sheets is on the bench. There is no scenario Arraez should be playing over Sheets.

A good middle ground would be moving him down in the order and having him DH. 8th or 9th in the lineup should be fine.

@TooMuchMortons_ Tatis 0-5 day coming in hot! People actually think Arraez hitting behind him is the reason he beats the ball into the ground nearly every AB. Putting Laureano up there changes nothing.

Since June 1st, Arraez has been the last valuable padres starter, the new arrivals who've played 20-25 games have surpassed him. 300 AB sample size

@kennytimeonsax @PadresFanTakes He’s below average in pitches per at bat. He doesn’t work counts. He’s not top 10 in anything but average which is a fairly meaningless statistic.

@dennispicht @PadresFanTakes You are bloody insane, mate. Arraez works pitchers, elevates pitch counts when he’s at his best. Even in a down season by his standards he is top 10 in NL. Strong average and top 20 in MLB. You ignore his talents and focus on his negatives but he’s a piece of a TEAM.

Here we are still complaining about Luis Arraez. Everyone moaning about this issue has never dealt with a major league locker room. Every player & coach would disagree with the pie chart merchants nerds on this app. Does he have to hit 2nd? No. Does he have to play everyday? Yes
