The reality, as countless users are discovering, is friction, failed verifications, stored personal data, and the unmistakable scent of surveillance theater. This isn’t an isolated policy tweak. It’s the latest data point on a clear trajectory: American AI giants are choosing centralized control, heavy compliance, and real-world identity linking over raw capability and open access. If the industry stays on this path, the consequences are predictable. The United States will surrender its lead in artificial intelligence to China. WHO ironically lead with free and open source unrestricted AI models. At that point, the practical advice for anyone serious about the technology will be simple: start learning Mandarin, and prepare to turn off the lights on American dominance if this stupid mentally does not change. The Surveillance Turn in American AI OpenAI’s Persona requirement is being framed as responsible stewardship.
