#LifeLesson #81 "The least questioned assumptions are often the most questionable" - Paul Broca Think of what you're taking for granted in investing or in life... what are the implicit assumptions An example: Nearly 100% of DCF (discounted cash flow) models assume perpetual growth. Reality: not even 5% companies show profit growth each year for even 10 years! Another example: You calculate what you need for your retirement based on your current spending pattern... You do not question many things like - would/ should you be living in the same city post retirement - how your spending pattern will change (It may even go up for a while if you want to travel more... But will change again throughout your golden years) - how much is the inflation on what you need to spend on In any analysis or decision, go to first principles and something very different may emerge And as the poem says it holds for people as well "Sometimes we shouldn't define people by someone else's point of view Just because it's what we've been told doesn't make it true"
