@Jonathan_K_Cook Excellent analysis, thank you Jonathan. I'd expect a hit job like this from the Daily Mail, but clearly I've missed something that happened to The Guardian.

The Guardian regurgitates British state propaganda by accusing a UK "influencer" of spreading "Iranian regime messaging". On a visit to Iran, Bushra Shaikh reported the effects of US-Israeli air strikes, including one on a girls' school that killed some 170 Iranians, mainly children. That used to be called journalism – stuff the Guardian and BBC claim to do. The Guardian amplifies calls for Shaikh to be investigated for "sanctions violations". The Guardian sees a particularly sinister agenda in Shaikh's posts because: * They "appeared timed to coincide with critical events in Iran, including the intensification of the conflict, ceasefire talks and nationwide protests in January" – that is, her posts were topical and newsworthy. * They showed a “highly calculated pattern of social media manipulation” – that is, she was good at promoting her posts. * They attracted "disproportionately high engagement” – that is, lots of people were interested to read her posts. * They "offer followers unmediated, at times citizen journalist-style access to a war zone" – that is, she didn't have to submit her reports to Guardian editors so they could edit out information that might embarrass western leaders. Shaikh herself is reported as being "aligned with anti-imperialist, anti-colonial frameworks” – that is, she doesn't simply regurgitate British state propaganda, like the UK corporate media. This Guardian hit-job isn't about getting to the truth. It's the paper desperately trying to protect its traditional information monopoly for "liberal-left" audiences, and thereby remain useful for the security services.

Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, Speaker of the Iranian Parliament and former IRGC commander, made this statement today (31 May), accusing the United States of attempting to divide Iran through economic pressure and media manipulation to compensate for what he called its military defeat. His argument is grounded in the record. Following direct military strikes by the United States and Israel against Iran, Ghalibaf says the objectives all failed: Iran’s air force and missile capabilities held, its navy was not destroyed, and the Strait of Hormuz was never forced open. Having failed militarily, the United States has switched weapons: sanctions, media pressure, and manufactured internal division. All we can be sure of is Iran will not surrender.

Pay attention. This is how much of the wealthy/billionaire class sees ordinary people: as losers. Wake up. The billionaire class doesn't care whether you're White, Black, Brown, Christian, Muslim, native-born, or immigrant. If you're struggling to pay your bills while they accumulate fortunes, you're all the same in their eyes: beneath them. They want you arguing about race, religion, culture, and identity because it keeps attention away from the one divide that truly threatens their power: wealth. For decades, they've mastered the art of turning ordinary people against one another while they grow richer, more influential, and more insulated from the consequences of the policies they support. A poor White worker, a poor Black worker, and a poor Brown worker have more in common with each other than they do with a billionaire living behind gates and private security. The game is simple: keep the public divided and keep the money flowing upward. The sooner people recognise it, the sooner they stop being played.
