The result: stolen creds and two compromised versions of Axios npm. Because of OSINT and social engineering, they pieced together public info to target one person and compromise millions downstream. These are the stories we're breaking down on _declassified Episode 2.

Attackers built a fake company, including founder profiles and a fully branded Slack workspace. They invited the Axios maintainer in, scheduled a call, and when he joined the meeting said his system was "out of date." He installed what he thought was a fix. It was a RAT.

A developer asks you to recommend a secure hashing algorithm and you suggest SHA-256. They follow up by asking which library they should use in their programming language and how to implement it correctly. If you only have general knowledge of cryptography but not deep expertise, how do you ensure you’re giving a responsible, secure recommendation instead of potentially harmful advice?

Here are the first things to focus on immediately: Observe team dynamics Study your boss’s management style Understand the lay of the land Align with the team’s goals and processes Help push the ball forward by helping with existing projects (don't offer a new overarching design, etc) Ask lots of questions Document everything Start offering advice and suggestions only after you’ve built trust and credibility. In the beginning, focus on listening and delivering on the basics.
