Soñé con una Cuba Libre. Desde niño, aunque nací en libertad en EE.UU., Cuba vive en mi sangre, mi alma, mi corazón. Para nosotros los cubanos, Cuba no es un mapa: es memoria, es herencia, es historia que llevamos en el pecho. El exilio no solo separó geografías. Partió familias. Hermanos que nunca volvieron a verse. Padres de hijos. Abuelos de nietos. Despedidas en aeropuertos pensando en meses... que se convirtieron en décadas. O en nunca. Mi familia vivió ese despojo. El régimen no solo les robó el país: les quitó negocios, propiedades, ahorros. Antes de salir, en el aeropuerto, les quitaron hasta las joyas familiares. Salieron con nada. Solo la ropa que llevaban puesta. Pero había algo que no pudieron quitarles: la esperanza. Mis abuelos se fueron sin nada para darnos un futuro libre. Ese espíritu cubano, como mata fuerte arrancada de su tierra, floreció donde pudo crecer. Un día volví con mi abuela a Cuba. Al salir del aeropuerto, sentí algo espiritual. Como si la tierra me llamara. Como si una parte de mi alma reconociera su hogar. Miré a mi abuela en su tierra natal y entendí: había llegado a la casa de mi espíritu. Por eso hoy no es noticia para mí. Es personal. Cuando veo a los jóvenes salir a las calles, siento orgullo. Saben el peligro que enfrentan: prisión, golpes, desaparición. Salen sin saber si habrá comida mañana, en medio de apagones y escasez. Salen porque la humillación pesa más que el miedo. Eso no es imprudencia. Es patriotismo puro. Es la misma llama de Martí. Cuba no nació para ser prisión. No nació para que pensar diferente sea crimen. Las dictaduras no caen por vergüenza. Sobreviven alimentándose del miedo. Pero llega un momento en que el miedo pierde su poder. Y ese momento parece estar llegando. Pienso en mi abuelo. En mis padres despojados en el aeropuerto. En los hermanos separados para siempre. Y veo a una nueva generación que sale con prácticamente nada, excepto lo que el régimen nunca pudo quitarles: su dignidad. Por primera vez en mucho tiempo, el sueño ya no parece imposible. Agradezco a Dios permitirme vivir para ver este momento. Para presenciar esta valentía. Para ver cómo una nación que creían quebrada comienza a recordar quién es. Qué curioso… el mismo gobierno que ha controlado absolutamente todo en Cuba durante más de 60 años ahora quiere culpar a otros cuando el país se queda a oscuras. Ustedes controlan la economía, la energía, los medios, la policía, y aún así el pueblo vive entre apagones, escasez y miedo a hablar. Pero claro, ahora piden “civismo y respeto al orden público” mientras la gente pasa calor y hambre en la oscuridad. Cuando un sistema lleva décadas controlándolo todo y las cosas siguen empeorando, llega un momento en que las excusas se acaban. Los pueblos libres no tienen miedo a que la gente proteste. Solo los gobiernos que saben que han fracasado necesitan amenazar a su propio pueblo para mantener el control.

Es comprensible el malestar que provocan en nuestro pueblo los prolongados apagones, como consecuencia del bloqueo energético de EE.UU, cruelmente recrudecido en los últimos meses. Y son legítimas las quejas y reclamos, siempre que se actúe con civismo y respeto al orden público. Lo que nunca será comprensible, justificado, ni admitido es la violencia y el vandalismo que atente contra la tranquilidad ciudadana y la seguridad de nuestras instituciones. Para el vandalismo y la violencia no habrá impunidad.
