“My father landed in Normandy on June 6, 1944 and my uncle was a gunner on a B-25 in the Army Air Corps during WWII.
My father never spoke about his experiences except that he hated the German SS. For the most part, my father was an enigma to me. He was a supremely private person. You would never know what he was thinking or what his opinions were.
I served with A Company, 2/502nd PIR, 101st Airborne Division. I also served with A Company, 1/505th PIR, 82nd Airborne Division and later finished out my service with HQ and HQ Company, 19th Special Forces, 1st Special Forces Group (Airborne). I served from 1965 to 1975 with tours in Vietnam from 1966 to 1968.
War changes everybody, just in different ways. I found the cheapness of life particularly troublesome. I returned from my second tour, I knew that I had changed. Today, I pray for the ones I knew were lost. I also pray for the ones I took out personally. When you take a life, even in combat, you change. No one can tell me otherwise.
I’m a full patch member of the U.S. Military Vets MC. I ride with the NC chapter. They are my brothers and we cover each other’s backs, just like in the military.
Ask any of us, and we will tell you, “We stand alone together”.

🇺🇸 Shannon Smith enlisted in the US Navy, at 18 years old.
By 2007, she was running missions in Iraq with Special Operations teams. In 2013, she trained with elite forces where she met Joe Kent, whom she married in 2014 and welcomed two sons, never slowing down in the military's toughest roles.
Cancer struck her in 2016. She beat thyroid cancer, recovered, and returned to duty. Smith dreamt of becoming a psychologist to help veterans with PTSD, she hit a wall: Navy rules barred her advancement because of her cancer. Shannon fought back, took her case to Congress, and won-changing policy and opening doors for countless others. In 2018, she deployed to Syria with the same unbreakable spirit.
On January 16, 2019, at age 33, a suicide bombing in Manbij took her life. Posthumously promoted to Senior Chief and awarded the Bronze Star, Purple Heart, and Defense Meritorious Service Medal. Rest easy Hero 🕊️

SPC Thomas Franklin Duncan III made the choice that defined his life by enlisting with the respected fighting forces in the world: the 75th Ranger Regiment.
To become an Army Ranger is to pass through one of the most grueling selection processes in all of military service. The physical demands are punishing. The mental demands are brutal. Most candidates don't make it. Thomas did.
He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment out of Fort Lewis, Washington — and he carried that Ranger tab not as a decoration, but as a daily commitment. A commitment to his country. To his fellow soldiers. To something larger than himself.
On June 9, 2008, during combat operations in Iraq as part of Operation Iraqi Freedom, SPC Thomas Franklin Duncan III was struck by enemy gunfire. He was 21 years old.
"Rangers lead the way" is not a slogan. It is a promise. It means you go first. It means you hold the line when others can't. It means the mission comes before your own comfort, your own safety, your own survival.
Thomas Franklin Duncan III kept that. Rest easy, Ranger. You are not forgotten.

🇺🇸 US Army Private First Class Rachel Bosveld, was killed 🕊️on October 26, 2003, during a mortar attack on the Abu Ghraib Police Station in Baghdad.
She enlisted in the Army after graduating in June 2002, following in the footsteps of her father, who served in the Army from 1967-1969, and brother Craig, who also served in the Army.
When she first got to Iraq, her father daid that she was ready to "kick butt”. Rachel was just 19.
