PIR loses you the second you stop moving. Our 24GHz mmWave C4002 doesn't — it picks up stationary presence and micro-movements, so automations actually work. 20 free trial kits up for grabs. ESPHome-compatible. Apply before July 26. What's the most annoying false-off you've had from a motion sensor? 👇 🔗 Apply here: jsj.top/f/JbcEpp 🔍 Learn more: community.dfrobot.com/contest-2164.h… #HomeAssistant #ESP32

Wait, you can do that? — someone's outputting TOSLINK digital audio from a Raspberry Pi 5 using just an LED on a single GPIO pin. The RP1's PIO handles the 3.1 Mbit/s S/PDIF timing while Linux does its thing in the background. It's part of a bigger project called CamillaDSP that turns a Pi 5 into a full 8-channel USB sound card. Audiophiles and DIY DSP enthusiasts, take note. hackaday.com/2026/07/08/pi-… #RaspberryPi #Audio

This could be huge for 3D printing — volumetric additive manufacturing (VAM) prints entire objects at once instead of layer by layer. No more layer adhesion issues, no overhangs to worry about, and prints finish in minutes. @UCBerkeley 's OpenCAL V2 just dropped with a new standalone slicer (Tomo) and Formlabs is producing the specialized resin. Still early — small build volumes and tricky post-processing — but the RepRap moment for VAM printing might be starting. 🤖For more details: hackaday.com/2026/07/07/is-… #3DPrinting #OpenSource

Interesting trend — JonathanRowny built an IP KVM on an ESP32-P4 instead of a Raspberry Pi. 1080p HDMI capture via CSI adapter, web interface over Ethernet, all on a microcontroller. Still a POC (no audio, no WiFi, no security yet), but the real story is how many Pi projects are going to get squeezed onto these overpowered MCUs. Most Pi-based projects barely use 10% of that Linux SBC. hackaday.com/2026/07/03/thi… #ESP32 #RaspberryPi

Love this — PocketMage is an open-source e-paper PDA powered by ESP32-S3. Dual displays (e-paper + OLED), full QWERTY keyboard, wizard-themed OS built on FreeRTOS, and 7 days of battery life. All in something that actually fits in your pocket. 149% funded on @crowd_supply with 444 backers. $185 for a kit you assemble with just a screwdriver. 🤖For more details: crowdsupply.com/talisman-desig… #OpenSource #ESP32

This is wild — ESP32 Bit Pirate turns a single ESP32-S3 into a multi-protocol hardware hacking tool. I2C, SPI, UART, JTAG, CAN, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, Sub-GHz, RFID, infrared... 20+ protocols from one board. 4.1k GitHub stars and climbing. Runs on any ESP32-S3 with 8MB+ flash. Web-based CLI means you can poke at protocols from your phone over WiFi. github.com/geo-tp/ESP32-B… #HardwareHacking #ESP32

Super cool build from Mukesh Sankhla — an open-source 80x16 RGB LED matrix with 1,280 individually addressable LEDs, all driven by our FireBeetle 2 ESP32-S3. Battery-powered, 3D-printed enclosure, and comes with Pixel Studio — a browser-based editor for designing scenes, animations, and widgets. 🤖Full build guide here: community.dfrobot.com/makelog-318784… #PixelArt #OpenSource

Super clean local smart home hack — Sam decoded his Dreo ceiling fan remote's 433MHz RF commands with an RTL-SDR, built an ESP32-based replayer, and ditched the cloud entirely. Been running for almost a year. Controls the fan through Siri via Home Assistant. That's how you know it actually works. 🤖For more details: samwilkinson.io/posts/2026-06-… #SmartHome #HomeAssistant

Love this — a Steam Controller that skitters across your desk to dock itself on its charging puck. Uses the haptic motors as tiny legs via slip-stick friction, guided by a webcam and WebHID. @Hacksterio 🤖For more details: hackaday.com/2026/07/01/wat… #DIY #OpenSource

This is wild — tiny robotic fish that swim around an aquarium, play autonomous tag, and dock themselves for wireless inductive charging. Zero feeding, zero cleaning, all the fun. Arduino Pro Mini brain, 4 micro motors, SLA-printed waterproof hull, Raspberry Pi tracking each fish via ArUco markers from an overhead cam. via @Hacksterio: hackster.io/news/robotic-s… #Robotics #Arduino

60 Hz e-ink sounds fake until you see Modos Flow doing it. 13.3" portable e-ink, open-source, user-repairable. Slow paper displays may just be a controller problem. Read more: hackaday.com/2026/06/13/beh…

Nice build! An Arduino + our DFPlayer Mini hidden inside a hand-sculpted gramophone — people think it's a real antique until they spot the power cable. No amp board either: the DFPlayer drives the speakers directly, which is the only reason it fit. 🤖For more details: hackster.io/ItsArduinoBoy/… #Makers #Arduino

David designed a drop-in replacement PCB for the Casio G-Shock DW-5600. Open source firmware adds a pedometer, moon phases, sunrise/sunset, a thermometer — and Wordle on your wrist. There's even a web emulator so you can try the firmware without the hardware. @hackaday 🤖For more details: hackaday.com/2026/06/23/a-c… #OpenSource #Wearables

An open-source robot vacuum you build yourself — Raspberry Pi, ROS 2, 2D LiDAR, Home Assistant, 3D printed chassis. No cloud, fully local. oomwoo is early stage and building in public. This is so cool — four cockpit instruments on a round ESP32-S3 display, all driven by our MPU6050 sensor in real-time. Tilt the board, the horizon rolls. All custom framebuffer rendering, zero graphics libraries. hackster.io/mircemk/diy-av… Round displays + sensor data = perfect gauge form factor. What instrument would you build? #ESP32 #DIY

Super cool build — Optocam Zero is a pocket-sized digital camera built entirely from off-the-shelf parts and a Raspberry Pi Zero 2 W. 51×71×18mm. That's smaller than a credit card. 2592×2592px JPEGs, autofocus, 8 built-in filters, and a custom WiFi hotspot to beam photos straight to your phone. All wrapped in a fully 3D-printed case. The whole thing is open source with a detailed build guide. Inspired by Kodak toy cameras but running Python on a Pi — love it. Nice build! 🧭 A handheld navigator that always points to your waypoint — and here's the clever bit: GNSS can't give you a heading when you stand still. So Mukesh dropped in a Gravity BMM350 magnetometer, and now it points true even when you're not moving. ±5m accuracy on a DIY device, running on a FireBeetle 2 ESP32-C6 (~$5.90). Waypoints get pushed over a tiny Wi-Fi web UI, Haversine math handles the distance. 🤖For more details: community.dfrobot.com/makelog-318741… #Makers #ESP32
