@GWRHelp fantastic announcements from the Guard / TM on 1W33 tonight - informative, professional and giving customers good information (and we are running ‘on time’). Well done, really good info. 👍

@Comp_fixbiz @SimonRecord1 Not by this time. The Anglo-Scottish service started in May’83 and was effectively an extension of the re-routed Glasgow - Notts (from S&C) to Harwich, which had ran separately from Picc. It was route via Victoria and the Hope Valley, until May 87 when it went via NLL for a year.

Found this in a drawer. List of Yates Wine Lodge branches and a menu on the reverse. BLT with kettle chips £2.75! It’s not dated, but I suspect mid-90s??

@StockportTrains 6S83 was its reporting number. As @stephen37292ML says, it was down to around 15mph on the climb to Grayrigg and Shep too, probably with the loco’s fire bells ringing away. It used to to be double-headed using 37370, 37373 & 37379 for a while.

PRESTON: 37373 / 37370 A pair of Scottish 37/3s take a cement train north through Preston. I don't know a lot about the 37/3s, but I think they were modified for work on heavy trains, without full refurbishment. What I do remember is the noise this pair made through the station!

@heather_waugh You’ve passed a failed train - me and Sanny at Carstairs, I can still see you waving at us as you weaved through the station ‘bang road’ and left us standing! 😂😂. We ended up doing 40mph to Kingmoor. Took us 7hrs to do Coatbridge to Carlisle!! 😳

18 years of driving and never failed a train, or failed to get it to its destination, until this morning. But we weren't getting through this. Crewe bound again, but hoping for a calmer night 🤞🏻

@PJSRail @Marshrail Sounds good Paul. I’ve just written an article about the changes to the WCML timetable through Cumbria since electrification in 1974. It’s really interesting seeing what changes have taken place over the years and how they compare to today’s TT!

Working on latest book & digging out archive items & my photos. Below Bridgwater 1987; passing the Cellophane Wks; closed 2005, which used to generate rail freight. Fascinating reviewing 1987 timetable & noting increase in trains now 🤓#rail200 @Marshrail

Clearly there is a cost of living crisis! £24 for a 75ml tube of toothpaste (just as well I had my club card!) 😳😳. Perhaps it comes with someone who dispenses the toothpaste onto your brush for you??? @Tesco

@stephen37292ML Same at Penrith - Newspapers & periodicals with those plastic binds that cut into your fingers, parcels, fish in polystyrene boxes (from Kyle & Mallaig), meat from London, livestock (homing pigeons, chicks) then there was Red Star and City-Link parcels! A different world now!

Now that brings back memories of my early career days at Motherwell station on the YTS. Flinging open the doors of a MK1 brake van and loading or unloading those brutes full of parcels .. happy days and a good free workout lol 😂

@SalopianLyne Diverted as a result of the Lambrigg derailment, Richard? It could only run northbound, as it wasn’t gauge cleared in the southbound direction, so went via the Cumbrian Coast!!!

@NowtbutaLad Looks like 1S74 1025 Euston to Stranraer with possibly 47628 (??) and two Motorail GUVs waiting to depart on a WCML diversion as the main line was closed for engineering work between Low Gill and Shap.

@stephen37292ML They would have ran in ‘accelerated timings’ which was 100 mph with a special bell code of 4-4-6 as the spacing between the distant and home signals in Absolute Block was not long enough for the higher speed operating.
