Today I got a phone call from a very polite young man.
"Hello sir," he said, "My name is Jimmy and I'm calling from Microsoft."
Instantly suspicious already.
He continued, We have detected a serious virus on your computer. It could destroy your files and even affect your online banking...
"But don't worry, sir. I can help fix it."
I said, Well that's impressive…because I don't actually OWN a computer.
There was a long silence.
Then he quickly replied,
Ah... then it must be your laptop, sir?
"Nope."
"Tablet?"
"No."
iPad ?
Don't have one.
Another awkward silence.
Then I said, "As a matter of fact, Jimmy..."I don't even have a telephone."
Dead silence.
Finally he snapped, Sir... now YOU are lying to ME!
I replied, Well...you started it.

Before I retired from Microsoft I was the Program Manager for Windows Time and @Arkypatriot is right. People don't care and they are so dumb that they don't even think about the sheer chaos that we are dealing with here.
We are talking about changing an extremely fragile, global (Interplanetary really) system with billions of users across multiple OSes, Hw platfroms and Ggggaaaaaacccckkkk! I am not managing that friggin disaster.
Look, when I retired Windows had around 1.5-2 billion MAU (Monthly Active Users). I think they should hire Captain Kaos to be the PM on that job. Lolz! it takes years to get update core kernel software into all of those systems. That means that we (the world) will have some computers that change their clocks and some don't. Yeah baby! That would be fun, fun, fun...

English

They don’t care they are so dumb they figure they’re going to have daylight till 9 o’clock at night even in the winter time the kids are not outside playing anymore. They’re all inside on their phones or social media. They’re all gonna hate it. We went through this in 1974 and everybody begged to come off of it.
English

Yup! Permanent DST does not create more daylight.
It creates darker winter mornings.
The sun stays the same.
The clock moves.
You are not “saving daylight.”
You are shifting human beings farther away from natural solar time.
Morning light matters biologically.
Children should not be going to school in darkness so adults can have brighter evenings.
USMC Lady Vet 🇺🇸@Arkypatriot
People are not getting this. In January, most of the country gets roughly 9–10 hours of daylight no matter what we call the clock. Example: STANDARD TIME: ☀️ Sunrise: ~7:15 AM 🌅 Sunset: ~5:00 PM PERMANENT DAYLIGHT SAVING TIME: ☀️ Sunrise: ~8:15 AM 🌅 Sunset: ~6:00 PM That is the SAME amount of daylight. You did not gain sunlight. You just moved the clock one hour later and created darker mornings in winter. The sun doesn’t change. The clock does

@SoveyX I would not upgrade for future family plans. Until and unless I have future family plans. This is to avoid moving into a a giant and empty house.

@Arkypatriot @jzell2285 Plastic milk crates for the Win! Yyyyyaaaaaaayyyyyy!

@jzell2285 Those are actually better because you can use those to store things in

Throwback to when we were so privileged we got to build our own bookshelves with cinder blocks and planks
This thing was peak home decor. Sturdy enough to double as a bomb shelter, cute enough for the teacups and plant to vibe.
Modern kids will never understand the satisfaction of not spending $300 on something that falls apart in six months.

@TruckerDanUSA @nikitabier Hey man, that is the Duke! I pledge allegiance too!
English

Good morning y’all! I’m here, I don’t see any sense in posting. Nikita is evidently pissed, I’m seeing my reach cut even more.
I’m probably flattering myself. I’m a small account, but @nikitabier, I’m not going ask you to choke me daddy, I don’t swing that way.
Go ahead and slap a “Sensitive Content” flag on here.
For all 6 of you, have a Great Memorial Day. Remember the reason we have our Freedom.

@Arkypatriot Not looking for those things unless I'm with a paranoid friend. I'm looking for social advantage. I choose C, A, B, D, G. Then I can project outwards into the crowd.

Situational awareness test.
You walk into this restaurant and get seated.
Which table and seat are you choosing — and why?
I’m looking for:
View of the entrance
View of the kitchen
Distance from bathrooms
Escape route
Back not exposed to the whole room
Most people pick a table.
People who pay attention pick a position.

You have no idea what it was like. If you weren’t standing in gas lines, you couldn’t afford your food. You couldn’t afford to buy a home. I’m tired of all thie generational tribalism. You didn’t grow up being worried about being drafted for the Vietnam war you didn’t watch the president murdered didn’t watch Martin Luther King murdered you didn’t watch Bobby Kennedy murdered didn’t watch kids at Kent State murdered. Didn’t sit in long gas lines with odd and even numbered gas days while your President sat on his pussy ass while Americans were held captive in Iran for over a year.
I’m getting real tired of the “we went through hell and the boomers had it easy” narrative.
You think older generations got a free ride?
They lived through double-digit inflation, insane interest rates, layoffs, gas shortages, recessions, wars, and plenty of uncertainty too.
People act like history started five minutes before they were born.
Every generation has struggles.
But blaming people eight years older than you for everything wrong in your life is not wisdom — it’s resentment looking for a target.
Nobody got a magical “easy life” pass. Most people were just trying to survive the era they were handed. And now you hate people based on the year of their birth, and you don’t know a damn thing about them or their life.

@blueoldlady24 @SirBylHolte This post is me trying to sell something? You didn't consider it was a slice of my life story? I'm selling something? Ignorance.
English

My name is William Michael Holte.
I’m AMERICAN, not AFRICAN-American.
So I don’t wear braids, two-strand twists, cornrows, or locs.
I don’t wear Kente cloth.
I don’t smoke weed or smell like it.
I don’t use the N-word.
I don’t celebrate Kwanzaa — I celebrate Christmas.
I don’t celebrate Juneteenth — I celebrate Independence Day.
I don’t listen to rap — I enjoy classical music.
I don’t wear my pants down under my butt.
I don't wear du-rags.
I don't pretend “We wuz kings,” or push fake ancient African empires.
I don’t blast music with the windows down.
I don’t eat soul food.
I don’t speak in AAVE or Ebonics.
I don’t demand reparations.
I don’t walk around with a permanent victim complex.
And, like the vast majority of fake 'African-Americans' in this country, I don't have any desire to go back to or live in Africa.
I'm Team AMERICA, ride or die.
Who’s with me on that?

English

Yeah, so if you are a manager at MSFT or any other tech company and you have a team of 5. Two very strong who do almost everything important. One mediocre who takes care of most paperwork and such. And two weak who accomplish small things.
You have to drop 2. Who's it going to be?
Same with any other company.
English

@C2IRIS My experience is that Microsoft lays off the weakest first. Then they use the money to keep the strongest.
That's why nobody wants to hire these guys.
English

Microsoft laid off some of their very best security researchers in Europe.
Months later, and many massive zero days and even, according to some people, government mandated backdoors, are being exposed with exquisite exploits.
Some of these researchers mused about going on a revenge tour. We encouraged them not to do that, of course. Other exploit brokers did the same.
Why do a legally perilous stunt for free, when you could make lots of money with a firm like ours instead?
English

@Arkypatriot When I retired from Microsoft by blood pressure was 260/130.
Doctors told me to take statins. I decided instead to retire from Microsoft. In less than a month my blood pressure went down to 1:45/125.
English

@SoveyX Do you know what that man's feet said when he stood up?
Hey! Get off me fatso!
English

@SoveyX That is too true to be funny! It hurts to laugh at that.
