@kendallbaker There was pro women’s baseball in the 1940s. How about 1st women’s pro baseball league in the 21st century.

@kendallbaker When black women are singing the national anthem, I sit my white ass down and listen.
English

@MDBayNews WTF- someone should have cut her mic.. that is soooooooooooooooo bad.
English

Cringe. Especially on Francis Scott Key’s birthday. But Wes Moore would approve.

Absolutely nothing could have prepared me for the national anthem at the first Women’s Pro Baseball League tonight

Not abducted- geez can we stop the denial of the truth.
When you break the law you are arrested/detained.
There is no excuse for an intelligent capable person to renew their visa on time.
As with every country, when you fail to do so, you are arrested and deported- and then barred for returning for a set period of time.
When will we stop making excuses for people who break the law.

A public health researcher at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health was detained and arrested by federal immigration authorities while boarding a domestic flight at BWI Marshall Airport this week, a Department of Homeland Security spokesperson confirmed to The Baltimore Sun.
Fatima Ameaka, a research associate at the Bloomberg School of Public Health who was once a Fulbright scholar, was traveling for personal reasons Tuesday before being brought in by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, a university spokesperson said.

@GrownGurrl @MDBayNews You do not understand their purpose or history.
It's called historic preservation.

@MDBayNews U praise this waste of money! Nobody asked for this!!!

So I have been reading all the criticisms and comments about the historic restorations of the statues on the Arlington Bridge. Once again, people are getting lost in Trump did it, instead of why the historic preservation was done.
youtu.be/FoOddsjiigo?si…
This is President John F. Kennedy's funeral procession. Jump to 3:14 in the video, when the caisson carrying his body crosses the Potomac on the Arlington Memorial Bridge on its way to Arlington National Cemetery.
The Arlington bridge was never intended to be just a way to cross the river.
General, later President, Ulysses S. Grant envisioned it as the "Gateway to Arlington," a fitting entrance to the nation's most hallowed military cemetery. He believed the men and women who gave their lives in service deserved a gateway worthy of their sacrifice. His vision included not only the monumental statues but an archway through which only the fallen would pass.
The project began but was delayed repeatedly over the years. After World War II, as over 171,00 of our war dead returned home, and as 8,600 American service members were laid to rest at Arlington, there was renewed determination to complete Grant's vision and provide our fallen with the gateway they deserved.
Because American foundries were still not converted back from wartime production, Italy offered to create the statues as a gesture of gratitude for America's role in rebuilding the country after the war. The sculptures were fire-gilded with 24-karat gold—a deliberate tribute to our war dead. Gold has long been associated with those who made the ultimate sacrifice: Gold Star Families, Gold Star Mothers, and the gold star on a service flag that signifies a loved one who died while serving our nation.
So before dismissing or mocking the restoration of these statues to their original appearance, watch President Kennedy's caisson make its final journey across that bridge.
Then think about every man and woman who has made that same crossing.
And ask yourself:
Don't they deserve a gateway restored to the dignity originally intended to honor their sacrifice, rather than one left to deteriorate through neglect?

@PeteButtigieg If you truly believe it, then show up in Maryland where @GovWesMoore has called a special session for gerrymandering the state.
English

Gerrymandering lets politicians choose their voters instead of the other way around.
Until we end that, it will remain difficult to achieve the things most Americans already agree on: higher wages, lower household expenses, and better services that become possible when billionaires start paying their fair share in taxes.

I confess, as I type this, there is a bendy straw in my gin and tonic. Not just any bendy straw, the kind that looks like it escaped from a child’s birthday party and somehow landed in a grown-up’s glass. And yes, it is crowned with a tropical paper flower because what else matches a tiki glass?
The final, unforgivable sin? I sweetened the whole thing with lime simple syrup instead of actual lime juice.
I am now the kind of person who puts a tiny umbrella’s cousin in a G&T and calls it a lifestyle.
I may never recover.
English

@stephenkruiser Now muster up the strength to deal with your "bendy straw" addiction and we are getting some place. #ODAT

So one of Maryland's finest Universities does not facilitate or track work visas and their expiration.
A supposed intelligent educated woman working at a top institution allows her work visa to lapse?
Sorry about her bad luck but those are the rules. Every country has visa rules- when a person allows it to expire and they remain in country- they are deported and barred from that country for a set number of years.

Fatima came to the US on a Fulbright scholarship & is a researcher at Johns Hopkins. She had previously filed for TPS & currently has a pending asylum case.
But ICE has detained her & is working to deport her.
She is not the 'worst of the worst' & deporting her is not making us safer. We must stand up & speak out.

So basically, the man is insecure because she does not answer his questions right away when she is concentrating on something else?
He is like a puppy and needs her attention 100% of the time, while she is a mature adult.
So he wants mindless chatter over a thoughtful person?
Sounds like she is an introvert and he is uncomfortable in silence.
He needs therapy.
Love is not in words spoken but in actions given.

Some days it feels like our leaders lose sight of reason in the pursuit of power.
A strong democracy cannot survive when accountability only applies to the other side. Every party, every movement, and every leader should be willing to examine their own words and actions with the same scrutiny they apply to their opponents. Those "dog whistles" exist on both sides.
The answer is not to excuse one side while condemning the other. The answer is honesty, consistency, and the willingness to admit when your own side crosses a line.
Leadership is not about winning every argument. Leadership is not about examining and policing the other side.
It is about holding both sides accountable. It is about having the courage to do what is right, even when it is politically inconvenient.
English

This is historic restoration and preservation, undertaken as our nation approaches the 250th anniversary of its founding. It is both timely and appropriate.
Anyone who has traveled through the great capitals of Europe has seen gilded monuments and public memorials preserved as symbols of national history and pride. These statues deserve the same respect.
The Arts of War and Arts of Peace were a gift from Italy following World War II. Italian craftsmen used a specialized fire-gilding technique to apply genuine gold to the bronze before the statues were shipped across the Atlantic. The attached September 26, 1951, newspaper article even specifically references their gold finish.
Now consider the cost in perspective.
After every election, Congress and the Senate spend approximately $3 million renovating and refurbishing their offices. Spread over a typical election cycle, that amounts to roughly $1 million per year in taxpayer-funded office upgrades that primarily benefit elected officials.
By comparison, restoring these historic statues is the first major preservation effort in 75 years. At a total cost of $5.1 million, that averages approximately $68,000 per year over their lifetime.
If the concern is truly protecting taxpayer dollars, there are many areas of congressional spending that deserve far greater scrutiny than preserving a nationally significant historic monument.
These statues stand at the entrance to Arlington National Cemetery, the nation's most sacred military cemetery and the final resting place of generations of American service members and our fallen. The gateway to Arlington should reflect the dignity and honor of those buried there, not decades of neglect.
Preserving our history is not wasteful spending. It is an investment in our national heritage and a sign of respect for those who served and sacrificed.
