@SKNgobese Dis maklik om te praat as jy nie self boer nie. Die #AddictedToMisery-mense sal nooit tevrede wees nie – veral nie as jy self nie veel van boerdery af weet nie. Die boere en private veeartse hou solank die fort. Weer eens.

@Eduan_22 @GeoRebekah The Court did not protect racism — it limited the racial manipulation of electoral districts. This is a step back toward color-blind democracy, not an attack on Black representation.

@GeoRebekah No that is not what the court decided. They said that you can't draw districts based on people's race. Everyone's vote counts the same, black and white. If a black candidate wants to be a representative he/she can stand the same way a white candidate does. No special treatment.

Lousiana has the second-highest percent of Black residents of any state in the country, second only to Mississippi. New Orleans, Baton Rouge and Shreveport are three of the Blackest major cities in the USA. The Supreme Court just ruled that Louisiana cannot have a single Black representative because, that say, that's racist. But a state defined by Black history and culture having all-white representatives is not. MAGA America, y'all.

#CountryDuty The Western Cape High Court has ruled against the @CityofCT and @our_da in an application where the City wanted to impose fixed tariffs on water, sanitation and cleaning charges. The court found that the fixed rates and charges imposed by the City of Cape Town were unlawful, invalid and were set aside. Here’s an important paragraph from the judgment: [140] As we have demonstrated, a municipality does not have an unconstrained power to charge fees for services at its own discretion. The exercise of such fiscal power is subject to important constitutional and legislative constraints. This ensures that the exercise of such power is not unlimited or unconstrained but i s subject to law, which requires a careful balancing of the municipality's obligation to provide services with the rights and duties of its residents and ratepayers.’ Big ups to @brettherron & @ForGoodZA on taking this up Well done to Afriforum 😝 for advancing some good arguments too on this matter opposing the fixed rates! Judgment will be on SAFLII soon

This is not true. Mugabe was not convicted of anything related to a Hydepark shooting or pointing a firearm, and I don't understand why this is being so widely reported as being the case. Mugabe pleaded guilty to pointing a fake gun [s120(6)(b) of the FCA] at Brian Nguvayashe on 11 Feb, a week before the 19 Feb shooting of Sipho Mahlangu. He was NOT convicted in connection with the 19 Feb shooting of the gardener at the Hydepark property. This, despite the IO testifying that Mugabe was present when Matonhodze shot Mahlangu, and the claim that Mugabe knew where the fiream was. Why has the NPA not been asked to explain how Mugabe escaped accountability on the 19 Feb attempted murder? Why did the State accept a plea that offered no facts about the circumstances that led to the shooting? What is the State's view on an accused person's legal team approaching complainants without the IO's knowledge with offers of compensation that results in attempts to withdraw a case? Why was the 11 Feb case involving Brian Nguvayashe joined with the 19 Feb case of Sipho Mahlangu? Separate incidents, different complainants, different accused - make it make sense.

Some thoughts, from a political communications point of view, on Helen Zille’s various JHB events (swimming, boating, tennis, etc). There are various different ways of gauging the success of this kind of political theatre. One of them, is the degree to which they come to define debate. The impact of them, in all markets, is remarkable. Let’s go through them all. 1. The media (traditional and online). Immense coverage. Generated debate and, importantly, accompanied by many, many visuals. A picture is worth a 1000 words they say. In politics, I would say a good picture is worth 1000 votes, they are an immensely powerful and universal language. 2. The government. It has been forced to follow suit, literally. Following Zille round desperately trying to fix what it can in her wake, and then issuing a statement. But Zille and the DA get the credit for that too. 3. The biggest party, from Mbalula to the ANC online army, has had to address it, respond to it, position themselves in relation to it. 4. The rest of the opposition, totally unable to respond, other than to belittle it as “gimmicky”. Which is a mistake, because now they cannot replicate it, and so give Zille and the DA more space to own this avenue. Zille is put to other opposition leaders in interviews. They are never put to her. In conclusion, what Zille has done, is absolutely capture the public imagination. In doing so, to define debate on her and the DA terms. In turn, the commentariat, the ANC and the opposition have all been forced to define themselves in relation to her actions. A hegemonic effect. This is how you dominate political messaging. It has been an astoundingly simple, clever and effective set of events.

Dawn Valley Farm - a 2,140-hectare vegetable farm and game ranch purchased by the South African government in 2008 as part of a land reform project. 2002 vs 2022 A perfect depiction of the ANC's legacy of failure in regards to land reform projects.
