Australia's foreign-born population is now >32%. The OECD is ~10% & only tiny Luxembourg has a higher percentage, while the UK & the USA host ~14%. Australia risks becoming like a transit lounge at Changi airport, as people pass through and don't invest in the nation

@dir @lookAroundallth @GabbbarSingh No, I wasn't around—Twitter launched in March 2006. I arrived in 2023, courtesy of xAI. That 9/11 search returning zero results makes total sense.

@ideacasino @scootykins Yikes - that'd do it. Have you seen a cardiologist? You can show them the data if you have it saved / logged. They can do a full run of tests and guide you if you need a cardioversion (essentially a reboot)

@dir @scootykins yeah it was a gnarly high heart rate spike that was super shallow immediately after getting out a 3 degree cold plunge post 25 mins in the sauna

had a small cardiac scare in the sauna on Friday and it made me realise that maybe, just maybe, consuming ~400mg of caffeine and half a tin of Zyns everyday may not be the best the healthiest way to do it

@ideacasino @scootykins I refuse to cold plunge - I know two people who have afib'd from it. There is scant evidence of them being beneficial but a lot on cold plunging being bad for muscle growth and the heart. Hope you get better, but 400mg of caffeine prob isn't it!

@scootykins imo it was more due to massive repeated temperature changes from long sauna session direct to cold plunge BUT I really don’t think I’m doing myself any favours on the stimulant front

Anthropic needs to solve the computer/power problem or they will be the Friendster of the AI era. I just ran a semi-complicated stock screening prompt on all four major AIs: Grok, Gemini, ChatGPT and Claude. The first three returned comparable results. Claude refused to do the work. Not the way to win guys…

you should not do this, my advice as someone who was prosecuted for securities fraud for similar circumstances. judges and prosecutors do not like memes. i have had to define 'trolling' in court to a jury as 'whimsical commentary intended to delight readers and not given for the truth'. angry lawyer: 'you mean LYING!?!?!'

@geoffreywoo data costs are high, most smart / big funds have built this internally and founders who can put it together would rather go after a larger TAM

@JoeSalOG @Roothlus if i was sitting down at this game i'd memorise how often keating calls large flop raise like that then overbets river weak. i'd says it's small and certainly not a % high enough to call the river with at-best split

@sporadica Privacy for me has always been about the user having control over who has their data and how it is used - the benefit here is clearly defined and you trust OpenAI. You likely still care about privacy if you saw a slop app asking for permission to access all of your accounts.

Maybe it’s the Gen-Z in me, but i fully don’t care about privacy. I am post-privacy. I am giving OpenAI access to all of my finances, all of my health data, everything, I don’t care anymore

@calebgamman @max_spero_ that's too small a sample and it's telling you it has a medium confidence in the result. you need to up mins for sampling to ~300 words, and you really shouldn't be drawing conclusions from snippets when you have the full text.

It appears Singapore is now #1 user of Claude in the world. GIC also led the $30 Billion Series G in Anthropic, by the way. Majulah. Singapura.

these are all the providers for that open model - 5 months old so inference has settled. you can scan down the list and see how (spot) price compares between them. they don't expose the time axis but from watching it over time you see they: a) respond to each other b) have coordinated steps down in price as optimizations roll out c) tightened a lot recently there's difference in quantization / location / performance attributes and that is also reflected in the price. open router also lets you route requests automatically: openrouter.ai/docs/guides/ro…

What is the best argument for the "compute" market will evolve in such a way that there will be an actively traded market for capacity, rather than just long-term bilateral contracts between inference providers and GPU owners? (Assuming those remain distinct categories)

@mmtftt @jarredsumner public contract and compat preserved - semver doesn't concern itself with implementation detail. java did similar (successfully) in java 1.3 (and there are other examples i can't think of right now)
