My thoughts on networked.art today I think networked.art needs more bidders and collectors, so I’m going to spend more time bidding and looking for art. There is so much happiness that comes from starting an auction that I want to see more of that happiness happening on networked.art and in general. I’m still pondering my minting strategy. The money aspect (i.e. cost of minting, bidding, etc.) creates real friction for my creative flow that I’m not really liking. I need to find how to manage it in a way that feels like I’m pushing my practice in a new way. I do have this worry that networked.art will repeat the previous mistakes of NFT platforms in the past. I don’t want this to be artists just passing money around. It needs to be real collectors spending real money. Right now, this is purely a primary marketplace. If it is to succeed long-term it will need a healthy secondary market, but that secondary market can not dominate the narrative like before. Rodeo was about editions, where networked.art is about 1/1s and patron editions. A nuanced difference, but an important difference. I do wonder what it was about Rodeo that failed. Rodeo was billed as a place to experiment for sketches, so I think artists tended to treat the work they minted there less seriously and was more “throw away” than something they valued. networked.art is also billed sd a place to experiment, but I do see Jack/Jalil/YGG trying to get people to create a balance between surface area and scarcity, but I do wonder if the balance is correct yet. Foundation could not generate enough revenue to stay alive after the crash. Networked.art feels like it is much more capital efficient, but I do think it needs to generate enough money for it to keep the attention of @jackbutcher @jalilwahdat @yougogirl_eth so they keep innovating for decades to come, not just years. Foundation innovated for years, but it was not enough.
