“And above all things have fervent love for one another, for ‘love will cover a multitude of sins.’” (1 Peter 4:8)
In Greek, “love” is the word “Agape.” Agape love is selfless and sacrificial. It is often interpreted as “unconditional love,” meaning love that places no conditions on the other person for giving or receiving it.
It’s the kind of love we are to have for God and for one another, as found in the Great Commandment. “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like it: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’” (Matthew 22:37-39)
And it is the type of love God shows us when Jesus said, “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.” (John 3:16)
And so, to love one another deeply, with this fervent love, is to love others as the Lord God loves us.
And when we do, we’ll be able to forgive the offenses others commit against us, as the Lord forgives our offenses against him, i.e., sin. Peter here brings the wisdom of Solomon, who tells us the same thing: “Hatred stirs up conflict, but love covers over all wrongs.” (Proverbs 10:12)
It is a love that doesn’t ignore sin but forgives it, seeking reconciliation, peace, and restoration in relationships.
I pray that we all follow the example given and see our relationships and the world turned upside down for Jesus Christ. Take care, and God bless.

@ditchettdean Human standards of justice constantly shift, but God's morality remains permanent, and eternal.
