Just heard from a family friend who is literally a prince from Denmark, first-rate fencer, skilled theater director, and can talk to ghosts -- rejected at all the Ivies, waitlisted at Stanford, accepted at Duke (they should rename it "Commoner"). Ridiculous!

@focusfronting I read Option (a) as implying that there is a finite set of twelve topics from which the professor could choose. I read Option (b) as meaning the professor might test you on twelve topics chosen from a potentially infinite set.

My biotech friends universally want to talk to FDA staff *more*, not less. Now bracing themselves for meetings getting delayed, emails slower to answer... We just fixed this over the last 30 years! “review times shortened by 3.3 months for every 100 additional FDA staff."

@jt_kerwin And every time, IRB demanded slightly different wording in the consent and recruitment docs. Despite using EXACTLY what IRB told me to use in the previous round (i.e., round 2 was based on what finally got approved by IRB in round 1).

Start making contingency plans immediately. Especially if you are supporting staff or in the middle of a crucial step like data collection. Start looking for emergency bridge funding. Speak to your university about this. Often this will be fruitless but you never know.
