@JShakes3 @John_Karalis That’s not the point, whatsoever. It’s about shaping what flexibility they will have to build around this core in the next 3-5 years.

I understand some people are upset about this, but don't let the way the Red Sox do business color how the Celtics do business. Boucher, Tillman, and Minott weren't playing. They re-balanced their roster for Tatum's return & made smart biz moves.
Yossi Gozlan@YossiGozlan

The Celtics get under the luxury tax by trading Chris Boucher, Josh Minott, and Xavier Tillman. They've now gotten: -Under the second apron: 2033 pick isn’t frozen -Under the first apron: can sign anyone in the buyout market -Under the luxury tax: one step toward getting out of the repeater tax -$325 million in savings -Future trade and spending restrictions unlocked

@maine__gretzky @StoolGreenie They can field what should be a better team than they currently are with Tatum back + some supplementary pieces in 26/27, whilst staying under the tax. And in the process set themselves up to really go big in 27/28 and beyond. That’s literally having your cake and eating it.

@StoolGreenie I’d only want the flexibility to factor in if something catastrophic happens. If the core is healthy, they should field the best team possible, regardless of tax. Having prime Jays on your team isn’t something to take for granted.

I wouldn't say strictly financial. Also opened up a pathway to convert Amari (which is good!) In terms of the repeater, it's also too early to worry about that imo. For all we know, they can fit additions into the $21M of space they have. It doesn't sound like a lot, but contracts are going down. Say you re-sign Vuc for $10M or under a year or find a $15M center and then a $5M piece etc. They can still improve the team and stay under....or they could decide to go over if a bigger star hits the market What matters, is the flexibility to do whatever presents itself
wicked smaht@maine__gretzky

@StoolGreenie Removing those 3 players was strictly financial. In a vacuum, I’m not worried about that, but if it’s an indication that they want to get out of repeater tax then I’m worried.

@IamTheFawb @blake_noell @celticsblog @yaxelmuse Why not? They have Tatum coming back, a promising (and cheap) core of young guys & will have ways to strengthen the team after Vucevic expires. They’re already good, they’ll be even better with Tatum. No reason they can’t stay under, still compete then set up to go big again.

@PatsFam69 @StoolGreenie They’ve been cutting money all year whilst their most expensive guy has been on the shelf and yet they are tied for a 2-seed… Maybe a little clue in there that it isn’t just about spending the most money and that Brad/Joe know what they’re doing.

@PatsFam69 @StoolGreenie Oh you’ll get jumped on for being real with these people, they don’t want to hear it It’s clear as day ownership made Brad cut salary to save them money, thats all these trades were, didn’t make the team a lick better and cost assets to do it.

Tom Brady saying he doesn’t have a dog in the fight is cowardly and rightfully has people disappointed, but more than anything it just makes him look like a dweeb… Yes, it’s the correct answer considering his ties to the Raiders/FOX, but no one would have batted an eye if he just said he was rooting for the Patriots. He’s become a weirdo PR robot, and deserves to be slammed for it.

@KeaganStiefel He’s just doing what the Raiders, Fox & the league office have told him to do now that all his Patriots ceremonies have been rushed through. If he wants to keep his two very lucrative gigs, he has to toe the line. And that’s neutrality.

I honestly didn’t expect such big reactions to the Brady thing, he’s basically stayed neutral about the Pats since he retired outside Gillette ceremonies. Nothing new. I wish the dude would root for his old team like most legends do. But the competitor in him wants to be our *only* guy, Drake has taken some attention and love away from TB. Kind of a shitty way to act? But also he brought us 6 SBs so it’s hard to get too hung up on anything he does tbh.

@wfbermudo @UK_Patriots I half joked about this yesterday but fans right now are clamouring for Maxx Crosby… If Brady was openly pro-Pats this week and that deal actually happened in the offseason owners would be complaining and filing grievances left right and centre.

@djh1203 @UK_Patriots let’s say he says he’s rooting for Pats, come SB - people will still say “oooh he’s rooting for Pats, his commentary is bias, yada-yada”. Regardless of what he answers he will be scrutinized,I think he just made the best “business decision” answer to avoid conflict of interest.

The Brady stuff is a little sad. I would be intrigued to see if he approached a Bucs Super Bowl in a similar way. What has been nice is some of the cult favourites coming out (e.g. Tedy & Vince) and being overtly pro Pats because they find it odd how distant Tom is being.

@Pfitz777 @bwwasea @ProFootballTalk Do you not find it odd that they crammed a HOF ceremony, jersey retirement & statue in 2 years? Seems to me the NFL, Raiders & Fox gave them a window to get all this done where he could be openly pro-Pats then he has to be strictly neutral if he wants to be owner + in the booth.

@wfbermudo @UK_Patriots People struggle to separate business from the sporting/emotional side. Thought it was a bit rushed they waived the Pats HOF waiting period, retired #12 and built a statue all in like 2 years, but makes more sense now. They needed all that done so Brady could (publicly) move on.

@djh1203 @UK_Patriots 100% this!!, people are so in their feelings these days to not understand this, a little comprehension on his business situation is the key. Nowadays, if your answer is not what I want to hear my feelings is hurt 😂, we need to get back to a world where other perspective matters

@javnndz @UK_Patriots Remind me which network was paying Kraft hundreds of millions as an analyst? They aren’t comparable situations. The NFL & Fox have bent over backwards to justify having an active owner in the booth. Him being openly partisan towards another team is a headache they don’t want.

@hk2sports @KeaganStiefel Brady has 375 million reasons to maintain neutrality, has to worry about conflict of interest as a minority owner of another team, who also happen to be in the process of hiring the Seahawks OC. Only the dumbest of the dumb can’t understand why Brady has to stay out of this.

@Topgangstatroll @DomGonzo12 They literally had the 4th most passing yards in the NFL without what most would consider a WR1. McDaniels offense is always built around having a deep group of weapons and spreading the ball around. Nothing to do with 2005 or Brady, it’s working *right now*.

@3lessar_ @realkaralynch @PatsPlanet_ I’m pretty sure there’s some kind of quiet truce between Brady, the NFL, the Raiders & Fox… he got to have his statue & HOF ceremonies and say all the pro-Pats stuff he likes, but after that they draw a line under it and publicly has to appear neutral.

All I’m saying is if you’re really “a Patriot for life” then it’s time to be a Patriot. We’re in the #SuperBowl. Now, I get it.. Tom Brady is a commentator. He’s also a minority owner of the Raiders. He “has to stay neutral”. But man… it’s just disappointing to see. GO PATSSSS

@PabloAnchondo8 @L68413lawr___ @DomGonzo12 Think Vrabel would smooth that over, plus wouldn’t be in meetings etc. with Josh. Get your point re. Brady. Think from a Fox/Raiders perspective he almost tries too hard to show he doesn’t have bias towards the Pats. His statue/Pats HOF ceremonies show his true colours.

@PabloAnchondo8 @L68413lawr___ @DomGonzo12 Will be interesting to see what Crosby’s market is given how bad his relationship with LV seems to be, 29 when the season starts, injury etc. Throw them a 1st, the KC 4th rounder (just outside the top 100) and maybe a guy like Ponder? I dunno, perhaps Brady can do us a solid.

@djh1203 @L68413lawr___ @DomGonzo12 Yeah trading both seems honestly unheard of, but if it’s for AJ and Crosby I wouldn’t mind… thing is I don’t think one first lands you Crosby without giving up that second. That’s a top 3 edge rusher (2nd most important position behind QB)
