The Grant and Danny “Nats are over .500” parade is on for tomorrow! Tuesday at 5:25 PM. It’s finally happening! ⚾️ We will walk from the station (1015 Half Street SE) to the CF gate. 4 blocks total. ⚾️ The plan will be for people to make signs and wear Nats gear and walk with us to the ballpark. ⚾️ We will go to Walter’s at the ballpark for a game watch and hang at the start of tomorrow’s 6 PM game. (Walters will give the first 100 fans in Nats gear that show up a free beer).

@1067theFan "A further commitment from ownership", from the ownership group that bought a World Series? The ownership group that went into the cap penalty multiple times? The only question for ownership is why they didn't fire Rizzo sooner, when they knew his draft record.

Despite positive changes and current fun, there's deep skepticism about whether ownership will truly invest in the Nationals. Can the team compete with a small market payroll? #baseball #mlb #Nationals

@nashunals I don’t think we should be on Lerner won’t spend maybe he sees this team as how good they are doing with scrubs and maybe wants to spend some money who knows but we gotta give it at least one year with new regime before we claim that again

With an owner who won’t spend, I can see Toboni using CJ to be a solution for pitching. To Boston for Connelly Early and another pitching prospect Anthony Eyanson or Kyson Witherspoon To Atlanta for RJ Ritchie and Didier Fuentes

@TalkNats @MLBNetworkRadio If the Lerners can’t get an early extension done with just one of our young studs, we know it’s ownership. The fans have seen enough, and want one of these guys extended.

@dkim2183 @JeffPassan For the most part, but budgets can change based on need. There is a thing called a "revised budget" which Ted Lerner did in 2015 when he signed Max Scherzer.

Money matters in winning World Series unless you go back to the 2015 KC Royals. But making the playoffs, it's more than money as @JeffPassan shows. And not every extension -or- free agent deal for 9-figures works as #Nats fans know with Stephen Strasburg at $35 million a year! Now with that said, not spending and lack of forward thinking is an issue with retaining your young talent on long-term deals. But just like Trea Turner in 2016 to CJ Abrams in 2022, you need a GM who sees the future and acts on it then -- because when you wait too long, the player has little incentive to extend.
Jeff Passan@JeffPassan

Memorial Day is often used as a marker for what's real and what isn't in a baseball season. And something fascinating is happening this year: The best teams and worst teams in MLB ... are spending the exact same in aggregate. Here's the full story at ESPN: espn.com/mlb/story/_/id…

The Phillies are paying Nick Castellanos about $19.2 million to play for the Padres. He's batting .190 with 4 home runs, 19 RBIs, .578 OPS and -0.8 WAR. They are paying Adolis García $10 million to be his replacement. He's batting .203 with 4 homers, 15 RBIs, a .607 OPS and -0.3 WAR. Defensively, García is +3 OAA (436 innings in the field) while Castellanos is -4 OAA (167 innings).

If only we had an owner that would invest money into this team, it would’ve been a no doubt playoff team this year Sell the team Lerners; let us Nats fans have future success with another owner because we love this team more than you obviously

In 2008, Paul Toboni and Marcus Semien arrived at Cal to play baseball. Eighteen years (and NINE kids) later, one plays second base for a team trying to beat the team the other guy runs. On divergent paths in baseball, and an unbreakable bond. nytimes.com/athletic/72953…

The Nationals are promoting shortstop Seaver King to Triple-A Rochester, per multiple sources. The 2024 first-round pick (No. 94 in Keith Law’s Top 100) has reached base in all 35 games he’s played this year. Hit .336 with a .989 OPS in Double A.

The #Nats attendance looks better now. The first 22 games of 2025 and 2026 is now an average per game of: 2025: 26,086 ESPN method/24,881 BBRef method 2026: 23,115 Difference is (2,971) if you use the ESPN method. On the BBRef method the difference is (1,766) because there was a single admission doubleheader in that sample.
Spencer Nusbaum@spencernusbaum_

Note in here: Nats Park has seen the biggest attendance drop of any park in MLB. Average attendance through the first 16 home games of 2025 and 2026... 2025: 26,206 2026: 22,094

Just under 39,000 in a sell-out at Nationals Park for Hot Dog Night. Credit to Jason Sinnarajah (pictured sampling a hot dog) and his staff for hitting a home run. The hot dog fries were very popular and hot dogs were devoured. (📸📸 by Intrepid and Garrett Lang for TalkNats)
