Head to Head battles are back next week, with two of our developers debating the pros and cons of .NET vs Java. Both might be solid options, but if there could only be one winner, who and what would come out on top? Learn more and sign up: headforwards.com/insights/webin… #java #dotnet

@evidenceSE @Headforwards I think both approaches can be helpful if you have the skills and time. Deeper analysis can highlight different and useful patterns but does require a lot more skill to conduct. I think it is a balance between effort and value that will be different for each scenario.

@dlongman @Headforwards A more sophisticated analysis can uncover more patterns, which provide understanding of the processes. Blindly using averages for a fuzzy image of the future might give you more of the same, but don't you want to improve?

@evidenceSE @Headforwards You are absolutely right, average is a very crude approach, but it is very simple. Because we are using this to forecast several months into the future, it is accurate enough to make gross predictions. We are not looking for high levels of precision generally.

@Headforwards Evidence based forecasting is all well and good, but most teams don't hang onto data, so they don't have anything to average. Oh, average is a crude approach; something more sophisticated arxiv.org/abs/1901.01621 . Always looking for new data to analyse, do you have any to share?

@evidenceSE @Headforwards Thanks for the research paper link, very interesting. In my experience, most teams use a tool like Jira, Rally or DevOps so have plenty of available historical data to analyse.

@FreeStyleDiabet Loving my Libre sensor with my iphone for scans. QQ: is there an api or export to CSV available of the data I'm scanning in? If not what way can I get access to my data outside of the app?

@sophiedennis Have you looked at the Logitech MX Keys? They are pretty cool and can work with a Mac as well if you ever change your mind

Anyone recommend a good but not expensive Windows keyboard and mouse. Wireless. I'm used to a Mac so like shallow travel keyboards and fairly small, flat mice.

epic question I just got, what are your thoughts on how to answer in 60s - "How are programming languages actually made? Why are there so many?" I have some ideas on how to approach this, do you?

Feeling happy, sad and relieved all at the same time right now. The project that I literally dreamed up on my death bed is over and will never see the light of day, despite YEARS of hard work towards it. C'est la vie. On to the next dream......

@mahorstman I read those books the other way around. Really liked the Phoenix Project and was surprised by how similar it was to The Goal when I read that. I think there was lots of inspiration taken from the goal 😀

Reading The Phoenix Project and LOVING it. Reminds me of The Goal by Goldratt, one of my all time favorites. Makes me think: can I apply the Theory of Constraints to my work alone? How would it affect my GTD application? More output on key things? AWESOME thought!

"Please try with a different browser" seems to be a common IT Support response (again). Do companies really think that that's compelling UX?! In 2020?! 😂

There is no talent shortage; people with the skills you're asking for don't want to work for you at the price you're paying with the processes you have.
