@CalderVenn I did it for 6 years in NYC and 4 in Upstate NY. There was also this fat guy with a "hoo-hoo" laugh who was laughing throughout my first set. I couldn't even tell I was bombing at the time, because it was an open mic with 5 people, so I thought one guy laughing meant i was good.

i used to bomb on purpose when i was starting out, get used to the feeling, shed the fear. there was this fat guy who would come every week because he loved to see losers suck at comedy, and so he loved my act. i killed every time with that guy.
so then it's a game, how much can i bomb hard enough that he won't laugh, which never happened, it just ended up making me good

I'm not gonna lie, the @Meta layoffs are some of the most dystopian I've ever seen. They got told to work from home, they were sent the emails at 4AM in the morning. Those who weren't impacted have software on their computer that tracks their every move, preparing AI to take their job as well. They're literally training the AI that will eliminate their position as well. Meanwhile, Meta is raking in RECORD PROFITS. I am a massive, unapologetic AI enthusiast. Yet, this is NOT the future I had in mind. I wish for Meta to crash and burn. This is not the way. Literally nobody benefits from this.

@CalderVenn It's more that serious literature has been pushed further from cultural importance since the 50s and 60s. That's when publishers started expecting more of a profit in order to compete with the TV set.

this is actually an interesting thought experiment. i can name dozens of essential literary works of the 40s, 50s, and 60s. it gets a lot tougher in the 70s.
80s and 90s, okay i’ll give you DFW, but… that seems like that’s it.
i think the show’s been over for a long time, longer than i’ve even been alive.
