Chị Tú was an amazing guest! It was an eye-opening conversation where she articulated the experiences of internal migrant workers in #Vietnam and the unresolved challenges they find themselves in that underscore their precariousness.
Tu Phuong Nguyen@TPNguyen90
In this podcast, host @findingsen and I talked about the precariousness of rural to urban migrants in Vietnam. Besides longstanding issues of wages & collective bargaining, I reflect on challenges of social insurance & gender discrimination from my recent research.

@findingsen Operating orphanages is a difficult business and requires specialized skills, leading the UN to call for the end of orphanages in 2019. If FPT can commit to scholarships until the children finish high school/college, they will receive the individualized care that they deserve.
English

Genuine question: is the orphanage model still viable for kids? Should orphans be better off w family members, whoever can take them in and state support & private donations can go toward these guardians? Instead of putting them all in a school/orphanage? e.vnexpress.net/news/business/…

One of the reasons #Vietnam’s vax rate is so low is bc it ''was waiting to see how the [foreign] vaccines work”, said @BichTTran1. This bumped its orders far back in the queue when it finally placed them. But foreign policy is its bright spot which could help its situation 6/

English

@findingsen @BichTTran1 Insufficient information about the safety of vaccines to counter the fake news that vaccine is bad for one's health. People said that they have declined to be vaccinated because if the vaccine is not safe for children (which is inaccurate), it may not be safe for adults either.

@Kristinbparco, chief mission of the @UNmigration in Cambodia, said reduced wages, job losses and the increased reliance on the internet, among other pandemic effects, have created a “fertile recruitment ground for traffickers”.

#Vietnam Deputy PM, who co-led the successful pandemic control campaigns last year & is currently helping epicenter Saigon's fight told the city to better its public health comms to encourage public trust & provide outbreak analysis & trends for residents. vietnamnews.vn/society/993735…

@findingsen Transparency is the only to maintain and promote public trust. If everyone is to guess based on limited info, there will be avoidable tragedies.

In a report shared exclusively with me prior to its release by @BlueDragonVN, I learned that most people prosecuted for trafficking women from Vietnam to China 2012-2020 were young members of ethnic minority groups like H'mong with no prior criminal record scmp.com/week-asia/poli…
