Hey @AnthropicAI why are there Chinese(?) characters in your Opus 5 output messages to me? I don’t read Chinese. And I thought you never distill any other model, right? What does, “Two things, both需要 straight talk” mean?

@filpizlo do you have any benchmarks for memory heavy algorithms / use cases? sorry for my ignorance but are you planning to extend it (backward compatible ofc) 1st class string type would be appreciated :)

Forget `unsafe` - Fil-C is safer than *safe* Rust, especially when it comes to multi-threaded code. This C++ program reliably panics in Fil-C. The 100% safe Rust program reliably segfaults due to the same race.

@jetbrains every time I open clion something is different, sometimes font size, sometimes clang tidy warnings, sometimes a plugin stops working, very unpredictable software but still better than trying to set up vscode for C++ development

@tsoding don't know enough math to give my opinion but love the dijkstra quote "Programming is one of the most difficult branches of applied mathematics; the poorer mathematicians had better remain pure mathematicians"

@GregKara6 It does that randomly for any subject, I'm discussing autoencoders, it randomly switches to opus, I edit one character, and back to fable happily, so distracting, horrible user experience.

bro anthropic tweaked their classifier to trigger on math research now. these kneejerk reactions are hilarious man. someone at anthropic: quick quick turn off the intelligence faucet for the common folk so we can be the first to solve math! desperate and hilarious. me and claude have been working on this research for months, including with fable since day one of release (even when classifier was very strict) and now, all of a sudden, that people are solving math problems and its trending on X. fable classifier starts refusing on every single prompt

Once DDR5 prices come back to earth, some reasonably priced CPU-GPU hybrid machines for GLM 5.2 at 100 tok/s look feasible. What would you be willing to pay for an Opus level model in your living room?

@gdb I think that's bad PR talking about price/performance, it makes you look like underdog, giving AMD vibes. You're the one started it all, you should aim for the absolute best models, my 2 cents.

our models are built to provide the best price for any given task. if you're able to get better price/perf on any workload, would love to hear the details and look at it together — gdb@openai.com.

Croatia stormed into the Eurovision final with a song about Ottoman rule and the ancient Christian tradition of tattooing young girls to protect them from Muslim captors. The song, performed in Croatian, has absolutely nothing to do with the usual “progressive” Eurovision agenda. It openly condemns centuries of Ottoman Islamic domination over Croatian lands and recalls an old Croatian tradition in which Catholic girls were marked with Christian tattoo symbols in an attempt to protect them from abduction, forced conversion to Islam, and sexual slavery. The lyrics stating that “many chose the grave because our mothers did not give birth to slaves” were interpreted by many as an act of cultural defiance in an age of self-destructive political correctness — and the audience responded with applause. Turkey has reportedly already sent official protests regarding the Croatian performers.

someone asked Beej how sockets work in C. he got tired of explaining it. so in 1995 he put it all online. it's been the definitive socket programming guide for 30 years. it covers everything: TCP, UDP, IPv4, IPv6, non-blocking I/O, select(), poll(). graduate OS courses worldwide assign it. it's funnier than any technical book has a right to be. it's free and always will be.

Linux has a file that contains an infinite number of zeros. It's called /dev/zero. You can read a terabyte from it, a petabyte, more bytes than any disk could store, and it never runs out. Programs have used it for decades to generate zero-filled data.
