Conflict-related sexual violence (CRSV) remains a critical protection and human rights concern in South Sudan. Since the onset of conflict in 2013, sexual violence has been systematically used as a tactic of war by armed actors, with devastating consequences for women, girls, and vulnerable communities. Persistent insecurity, intercommunal clashes, and weak protection systems continue to expose civilians to high risk, particularly in conflict-affected regions such as Jonglei, Upper Nile, and Unity.
CRSV undermines social cohesion, disrupts livelihoods, and limits access to essential services, including health care for survivors. Addressing it is central to peacebuilding, justice, and recovery. Strengthening prevention through early warning systems, survivor-centred responses, and coordinated action across humanitarian, development, and peace actors is essential to mitigate risks and support long-term stability. These initiatives will contribute to #EndingAIDS as a public health threat in #SouthSudan.
