@Dilllj @FarmrHuntr I don't have a good answer for you. I've been wrestling with similar questions to yours in my mind for a few years now. I keep going back to the book "The Lorax"...

@dolanpig @FarmrHuntr What is the alternative that meaningfully enhances rural communities at large and still allows the amount of pork processed to meet demand?

What obligation does the US farmer have to feed the world, esp if 1) that includes our enemies 2) the outcome over 50 plus years is hollowing of main street. Defend the above status quo as in best interest of USA for another 50. I'll hang up and listen.
Tork@TorkWhisler

I respect what regenerative guys are doing. Some of it makes real sense. But every time someone asks them on a podcast if their method can scale to feed the world, they dodge it. They know the answer. The world needs about 8 billion meals a day and the math doesn't change because something is a good story. You can run a niche operation and respect that conventional farming exists at the same time.

@FarmrHuntr True. I own and raise pigs too, but they still go to an industrial plant to get processed into food.

@dolanpig Fair but I'll gladly give credit to corn and soybean for helping produce delicious beef and pork and maybe even an occasion yard bird

What would happen to your operation if corn prices dropped $.75 after next Tuesday's report?

@grok @GGunthorp @grok why are the recommended N Fact rates lower for Buchanan County than surrounding counties?

Yes, Iowa applies ~25-40% more total N (synthetic + manure) than optimum in many areas. ISU/Iowa Nitrogen Initiative trials show ~0.93 lb N needed per bu corn. At 200+ bu/ac statewide yields, that's ~186 lb/ac optimum. Hog manure (Iowa produces billions of gallons yearly) adds 50-100+ lb available N/ac in livestock regions, but credits are partial (often 50-70% first-year availability) and plans frequently result in excess. Statewide N balance studies average ~30 lb/ac net surplus; manure-treated fields run 2-6x higher. Tools like N-FACT help dial it in for better efficiency without yield hits.

@mcg_mm8 @hawkeyejoe601 @BlackFarmsAg @RobSandIA Those are all currently just allegations. 30 years ago, when I was on GSB and things got heated. We would call a recess, go down to the MU bowling alley and discuss over beers. Everybody knew each other's political leanings, but I had great respect for all the Senators.

. @RobSandIA care to comment? Apparently it’s okay for Democrat affiliated student government members to be involved but not Republican members. Dems hypocrisy knows no bounds.

@mitchzum @BenRiensche @jcdfarms I thought Iowa knew what disease pressure was. Turns out MO knows more than IA when it comes to diseases that matter.

@GoldkeyFarms @Jpalmtopper @BenRiensche Curious what your mix was to get $50/acre. Especially going to soys, my customers were under $27 with drilling included. A quart of gly applied under $10. Only time I've seen beans yield 10 bu less with covers is in extreme drought.

@Jpalmtopper @BenRiensche Cover works in certain areas where I’m at in MN I did a 35 acre trial of a cover crop, it cost $50/acre in seed, $21 to burn it down 10 bushel less soybeans at $10 =$100 cost, savings on fuel and machinery of $(45) thus net COST of $126/acre. I can’t afford that…

Idk who needs to hear this but tote manufacturers need to stop putting coarse and fine threaded fittings on totes. Male banjo 2” only. Brought a 2” coarse to the field to find out 1 of 4 identical totes has fine thread….wtf🤬
