@domjost @amix3k [2/2] All without making the tool overcomplicated because simplicity is what makes @todoist so powerful. This is what I've manually set up for me and my team. It works well, but it's for sure a hack to use the tool not as it was meant to be.

@Geekvineeth @amix3k That's awesome! 👏🏽 how has using your own app to manage goals changed your habits? What would you miss the most if you would switch to a new app?

I use my own app to manage goals and todos : gitgudapps.com/auratracker. It’s not a cloud sync product as todoist as I wanted to make out one time purchase & keep the data private/local (no need to be online). Do have a look and maybe you can borrow some of the features from my app (has good tracking of goals->habits->tasks) and the users can also get powerful insights regarding their journey !

@alexhwoods @amix3k Alexander, imagine you had a recurring task linked to a Goal. How would you imagine progress tracking to work?

@amix3k Making habit tracking a bit more first class seems related to goals. Basically, attaching 1 or more recurring tasks to goals. Something like metrics (measuring the goal) seems like a bad fit for Todoist (think weight tracking, revenue tracking, etc.)

@amix3k Can Todoist be the data layer and get the agents to organize around it

@amix3k I have a process within Todoist now to manage goals. It’s complex to keep organized so if there is a better way, can’t wait!

@domjost @amix3k For the money saving. It would be save £x amount by w/c as the milestone. Tasks to help this would be “research Nvidia’s company strategy as potential investment” marathon would be run x km by certain date. Quite difficult to execute but I do believe goals will be a game changer

@domjost @amix3k I like the way you follow up with all the people who provide feedback! That's the way to understand how to best add value to the tool.

@domjost @amix3k Same task, yet repeated daily. Or for example if you never did 100 pushups, - start making 20 first week daily - 30-second week - 40 third week - 50 sixth week ... - 100 daily after week 6-10. You could call it make 200k push-ups in 2026 or improving strength in 2026.

@Olli0103 @amix3k Indeed, very interesting :) We've always been big on creating things that are framework agnostic. hopefully our way of doing Goals will cover many different use cases.

@domjost @amix3k Performance and development. At least my own. For teams I think it would also be good. Question is which model goals will support, OKR? simple SMART? Etc etc. Pretty interested in details :D

@domjost @amix3k I’d love it to allow me to set milestones for each goal with gentle prompts along the way to keep me moving. Some form of analysis that lets me see my progression of what goals are stagnating and what’s on track. The ability to identify blockers to goals would also be great.

@domjost @amix3k Like team workspaces? Not necessarily. Areas can be personal or for a team. Things 3 does this well. E.g. I have areas like Admin, Business, Health, Home, Relationships, etc. “Health” isn’t a “project” but rather an ongoing area of responsibility. Does that make sense?

@domjost @amix3k So Todoist’s “projects” are really just lists. I’d prefer: Areas (of responsibility) - are ongoing - contain to-dos - contain projects Projects - are completable - contain to-dos - can have a deadline Then you could add goals, but they’d add less value once areas exist.

@studios @amix3k These are great examples! Taking "do 100 pushups daily for 365 days", what kind of tasks would you link to the goal?

@domjost @amix3k Well good question: You can go personal, work, fitness, hobbies, etc. For example: - do 100 pushups daily for 365 days. - handle a big event, successfully - read 9 books in the next 9 months - create an app and publish it on the app store - write the top 10 funniest memories,

@domjost @amix3k Ah no, I mean set it up so that you can (optionally) assign a task or a project to a goal. Goals would usually not be empty of course.
