Went to see the odyssey today…as a Greek mythology nerd I was more than apprehensive. I’ve also obviously seen the discourse online and as someone who is pretty down the middle with this stuff I didn’t know what it was going to be like. I don’t particularly like things straying too far from the source material and I don’t like shoehorning things in for the sake of it, but……i LOVED it!!! Yes the armour isn’t of the time period and the accents are American, and that would normally bother me but it just didn’t. The movie was so much bigger than those things I didn’t even really notice. I thought the acting was amazing. Tom Holland I thought was a coming of age performance, I’m not sure he’ll play that kind of young character again after this. Robert Patterson (traditionally not my favourite actor) I thought was phenomenal. He needs to play more villains, matt Damon I now can’t see anyone else playing Odysseus, and say what you want about the casting of Elliot page…firstly he’s not Achilles and I agree that would have been an odd casting he’s playing sinon and actually is the perfect choice for that character in this particular film and NAILS it! Nolan does this amazing thing where he makes it seem like the gods really did exist on our planet but at the same time makes it seem like this is fantasy. It’s dark and real but with just the right amount of myth. I personally thought the score was so good, I must admit I don’t know much about movie scores but it felt massive to me but as I said I’m just kind of an average punter. It’s also a little bit sad weirdly. Without spoilers it kind of signals the end of the era of the gods as if you know your Greek mythology the Bronze Age comes to an end in the near future. I think Nolan nails this transition soooo well. What a movie…loved it, and if you’re just a normal dude or girl who likes this stuff trust me….go and see it 🙌🏻

@DLoesch The contretemps over “woke” casting is simply silly and “wokeness” has nothing to do with the film’s main storyline. A warrior wants to get home to his wife and has to overcome epic challenges to do so. It would be silly not to see the flick.

I’m hearing conflicting things about The Odyssey. I don’t have the attention span for woke trash. But is it actually woke trash? Or is it worth seeing? Feedback preferably from those who’ve actually seen it, please!

Christopher Nolan's "Odyssey" opens to universal rave reviews and the best preview numbers of the year. It's on track to earn a billion and a half bucks at the box office. A mourning Elon Musk has gone into seclusion, consoling himself with screenings of "Birth of a Nation."

The pettiness of people complaining that The Odyssey lacks 'realistic' casting. My dude, it has a one-eyed monster who sucks soldiers' heads like lollipops and a witch who strokes men's heads until they turn into pigs. Realism isn't the point.

@MovieMantz No surprise. Meanwhile, the massive volume of X posts concerning the flick has achieved a very worthy objective: It has TOTALLY overshadowed comment on Trump’s lame Thursday speech. One can imagine his wrath over that is akin to Athena’s toward Troy.

BREAKING! “THE ODYSSEY” opened with a huge $17.6 million in Thursday night previews, beating “TOY STORY 5” ($17.5m) as the biggest preview opening of 2026! On track to pass $100 mil domestic for the weekend, beating Nolan’s Oscar-winning “OPPENHEIMER” ($82 mil)!

I just got home from watching The Odyssey. A year ago, my one worry about Nolan’s adaptation was that “defy the gods” marketing tagline. Homer’s poem was not about defiance. It’s about a man who breaks a sacred law and spends the rest of his life answering for it. If the film didn’t capture that, I’d say so. I’m thrilled to report that Nolan understood the assignment. This is fundamentally a film in which men are answerable to an order they did not author and cannot escape, and violating it costs them everything. Few modern films carry that kind of metaphysical weight anymore, and it was a genuine pleasure to see those values dramatized on screen. The scale invites comparisons with Lean’s masterpieces, and the performances from Damon, Hathaway, Pattinson, and Leguizamo are superb. A few choices in the sound mix and photography occasionally threw me off, but never enough to sink the experience. In short, this is a magnificent epic that respects Homer’s moral universe. It’s a film any conservative serious about cultural inheritance ought to appreciate. Those who spent months denouncing it as “woke” were reviewing the tweets they read, not the actual film, and they’ve told you precisely how much to trust them on everything else.

What's most striking about the woke aspects of Nolan's Odyssey is not their inclusion but their magnitude. The casting isn't just colorblind; it's precisely, clinically "diverse." The actress who plays Helen isn't just black; she describes herself as "dark as night." Achilles, the most fearsome warrior in the world, is recast as another warrior played by a diminutive "trans" woman. Of all the great versions of the poem, Nolan chose the most feminist translation as his source text. It's all just so over the top. The director who made one of the most conservative films of our time, The Dark Night, seems not just to have accepted the standards of his woke contemporaries but even to have exceeded them. It's puzzling, until one remembers the subject: Odysseus, the symbol of cunning, guile, trickery. Given the Academy's adoption of DEI requirements in 2024, has Nolan perhaps chosen not merely to depict but to imitate his hero?

There’s never been a bigger signal to me that 90% of Twitter is fake than the made up culture war against the Odyssey. If you’re normal and go see the movie you have ZERO idea there’s some uproar about the casting. Everyone on this app is fake and/or insane now.

@donfrederick2 The casting in this “epic” movie is specifically designed to reinforce an agenda that undermines the values and norms of western civilization while pandering to the gay Jews in Hollywood that bestow awards. There’s nothing silly about pointing out the contemptible nature of it.
