NASA to test nuclear electric propulsion with 2028 mission to Mars spacenews.com/nasa-to-test-n…

English

Thinking about the NEP demo for Mars and something special it could do, since adding deltaV is relatively cheap. Since it's nuclear powered it could drop off those Skyfall drones and fly past mars to raise its orbit. It's nuclear powered so it could head out beyond the asteroid belt towards the outer planets.
NASA could try sending it to Uranus or Neptune, even with token science instruments it could be worthwhile.
But that requires a lot of extra work to make sure it can handle the thermal environment, and the communications requirements.

Most people think Moon bases are about rockets.
They’re actually about building a full stack for survival.
Here’s the Lunar Infrastructure Stack:
1) Energy → solar + storage (no atmosphere, extreme cycles)
2) Communication → Earth ↔ Moon latency systems
3) Mobility → rovers, drones, autonomous transport
4) Habitat → radiation shielding + life support
5) Supply Chain → constant payload delivery from Earth
6) Autonomy → AI systems managing operations
No stack → no civilization.

To build a sustained human presence on the Moon, we are building @NASAMoonBase, prioritizing surface operations and scalable infrastructure.
- Frequent robotic landings and mobility testing including MoonFall drones
- Starting in 2027 nearly monthly cadence of equipment and rovers with scientific payloads landing on the Moon.
- Investments in power, communications, and surface mobility
- Scalable infrastructure to support long-term human presence
The objective is clear: build the foundation for an enduring lunar base and take the next step toward Mars.

@SciGuySpace @StephenClark1 FINALLY, and maybe in my lifetime. Been waiting since the early 70s🌖. Even a temporary reusable inflatable would be a nice start.

Holy shit, we’re finally building a Moon base!

Humans are returning to the moon 🌝
Toby Li@tobyliiiiiiiiii
Humans are returning to the Moon for the first time in 54 years exactly one week from today. This is not being talked about enough.

@SpaceNews_Inc @thesheetztweetz Great suggestion from NASA Admin Isaacman but who will pay for it.

Lunar factory starting to get to rate.
Blue Origin@blueorigin
Our second Blue Moon MK1 is moving through the production line at Lunar Plant 1 in Florida. The aft module and LOX/LH2 tanks are in assembly, with the aft module recently transitioning from a test fixture to a low-test stand for processing. Each lander is a step toward Lunar Permanence.

@blueorigin Waiting for results of the testing of the first prototype❓

@blueorigin @Alexphysics13 Excellent!! And the third and fourth? And the 1.5 crew cabin?
English

@Jordanguidry6 @FelixSchlang From here on out, except for a few 'still in basic development ships' all ships need to be test fueling ships and HLS test prototypes. Statlinks are just a distraction.

In a Pentagon press conference, Secretary Pete Hegseth gave an update on U.S. action in Iran: "As I've said from day one, our capabilities continue to build. Iran's continue to degrade."

@CBSNews WTF does that have to do with it? Always a smart ass response. But no smarts.

When asked why the U.S. didn’t tell allies about attacking Iran prior to the strikes, President Trump says, “we wanted surprise.”
“Who knows better about surprise better than Japan. Why didn’t you tell me about Pearl Harbor?” Trump says, alongside Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi, who is meeting with the president at the White House on Thursday.

NEWS: NASA is planning a bigger @SpaceX Moon mission role using Starship, in a massive blow to Boeing.
With the new proposal, Boeing's SLS would no longer be used to boost Orion close to the moon. Instead, Starship and Orion would dock in Earth orbit, giving Starship the pivotal role of propelling the capsule to the moon’s orbit, before taking astronauts down to the surface. bloomberg.com/news/articles/…

@SpaceNews_Inc What a great video. Three to four landing a year would be a sharp increase. We definitely need to put robotic landers in proposed Artemis landing zones before we attempt those landings.

After completing a battery of tests, Booster 19 has returned to the production site.
Hopefully the next time we see this booster, it will have 33 Raptor 3 engines installed! 🔥🚀

Initial Super Heavy V3 and Starbase Pad 2 activation campaign complete, wrapping up several days of testing that loaded cryogenic fuel and oxidizer on a V3 vehicle for the first time. While the 10-engine static fire ended early due to a ground-side issue, we saw successful startup on all installed Raptor 3 engines. Next up: preparing the booster for a 33-engine static fire

@CaptMarkKelly But won’t that affect the MAGA fascist vote too.
