An excellent analysis - but courage is not a word I would use to describe this @bcndp government. “The BC NDP government needs to summon the political courage to amend DRIPA, and the Interpretation Act, in order to allow for legislation to be amended in an orderly way.” #bcpoli

What's happening in Canada? The portion of violent crimes solved by police is going down. The so-called 'clearance rate' is now 55%. It was 63% in 2014. This during a wave of extortion attempts targeting businesses in B.C. and Ontario, with some involving arson and shootings. Via @TheHubCanada #cdnpoli #bcpoli #onpoli

HST rebate announced ➡️ buyers think relief is coming. Builders? They just raised prices. That “rebate” didn’t lower costs It got absorbed into the price. $1.3M ➡️ $1.45M overnight for the SAME house. Policy meant to help buyers…ended up protecting margins instead.

Reflects poorly on both. Gladu for obvious reasons. But if ever one needed proof that Liberal principles are first and foremost about the acquisition of power and not a coherent set of values and perspectives, it's accepting an unapologetic conservative like Gladu into caucus
Mark Carney@MarkJCarney

At this important moment for our country’s future, Canadians with a broad range of experience and perspectives are uniting to build Canada strong. I am honoured to welcome Marilyn Gladu today as the newest member of this government and our Liberal caucus. In a time of global economic uncertainty, Canada’s success will depend on how we build ambition into progress and strengths into sustained advantage. Marilyn brings the practical, results-driven leadership this effort demands. Having spent decades of her career in engineering and international business, she understands what it takes to create good jobs, strengthen supply chains, and ensure Canadian industry can compete in a rapidly changing global economy. She has been elected by the people of Sarnia—Lambton–Bkejwanong in four straight elections since 2015, and repeatedly earned recognition from colleagues across Parliament for her proven willingness to work constructively across party lines. I’m looking forward to working closely with Marilyn to build a stronger and more independent Canadian economy, meeting the challenges of a changing world with lasting opportunities for all.

Thanks for this chart to the late @vancouversun 'money columnist' Mike Grenby. It shows it took the average household 3 years to save for a B.C. house in 1949. It took about 5 years in 1979. Then, in 1981, it suddenly took 9 years. (Also check out how many minutes or weeks it would take to buy beer, milk, cup of coffee etc.)

The thing CSIS calls a “sophisticated, pervasive and persistent” threat to Canada's national security is now co-piloting Ottawa's strategic partnership with Beijing. Not quite ready to keep my trap shut about it. therealstory.substack.com/p/abandoning-c…

Great effort by reporter @jungangela_, who tried to reach Joy MacPhail about a @BCFerries shutdown. My recent piece on MacPhail - asking if she's the most powerful woman in B.C. - is getting a bunch of new page views as a result. #bcpoli #vanpoli google.com/search?client=…

Reporter @jungangela_ called @BCFerries Board Chair Joy MacPhail - but MacPhail said she was on vacation and ended the call. No one associated with @BCFerries would do an interview Sunday. Queen of Surrey lasted 40 min in service after annual refit — then broke down. #bcpoli

On Canada embracing China: "The whole point of reducing our reliance on the U.S. was to maintain self-respect and sovereignty. "But there are worrying signs that we are replacing one hegemon with another — and this one has long-term goals that are antithetical to Canada’s national security." This is startling. The portion of Canadians with good emotional health declined from 64% in 2015 to 56% in 2024. That's largely because of worsening emotional health and the increasing prevalence of pain. Results even poorer in B.C. Via @StatCan_eng #cdnpoli #onpoli #bcpoli @Ayan604 @StephenPunwasi
