Going back to this- I'm hearing that the Google Veo commercials were actually shot with actors etc doing various things (positions, expressions, mouthings), with various lighting set ups, sets, etc that could then be used by AI to "make a new thing". You're being hoodwinked.
Boots Riley@BootsRiley

AI is a bust. It isnt the future for art/film/writing- beyond helping small VFX busywork TRILLIONS spent- & people barely wanna look at it, younger gen sees it as "low effort" If they ever did "get it together", theyd have a financial hole they'd never fill A crash will happen

Maybe I'm too woke, but if this course was about how the Holy Roman Empire and Austrian policies shaped Beethoven, people wouldn't bat an eye. This course appears to be about how Compton and urban policy shaped Kendrick's music, which is a great way to show how things connect.

So we’re all on the same page, a majority of western anime enjoyers have *always* preferred dubs In the early days, Astro boy, star blazers, speed racer, robotech etc. were all dubbed In the 80s Central Park and other VHS licensors invested heavily in dubs b/c there was more interest When my generation was coming up, most people watched pokemon, DBZ, Naruto, Sailor moon etc. on TV
ScreenTime@screentime

Netflix says 50% of all their worldwide users now watch anime ▪️ 150M households ▪️ Anime viewership has tripled in 5 years ▪️ 80-90% watch dubbed

I know we all wanna blame having access to media at all times as whats causing problems. But i assure you. This is not new. the relationship with it is without a doubt changing but not bcz of its existence or always having something playing.

Why do i have to explain to 23 year olds “ok well we had tvs in nearly every room. A 3 bed home commonly had 4 or more tvs, and there were phones in most rooms but they were cordless. And people had music playing all the time. You probably heard more music accidentally then”

This ancient youtube skit is still my favorite thing Nathan Fielder has done. If you hear this song coming from my room, it can only mean I have this video playing. I find it extraordinarily transporting and evocative. This is exactly how it felt to fall in love in the mid 2000s.

In theory, games are the perfect place to teach that failure is not only okay but a necessary stepping stone to success. But now it's so easy to switch to a game with guaranteed progress, so games with consequences for failure are more risky to make, creating a cycle.

Free to play games and MOBAS are so much weirder than fighting games. Way less intuitive. The difference is that fighting games confront you with your own inadequacies straight away. But please please give em a try, they're the most mechanically complex and rewarding games!

The final step on the bizarre humanization of AI is humanizing its mistakes. You’re like, “oh, how can you expect it to remember all that,” or, “I can see how it got confused, that’s a difficult topic.” It’s a robot, these things don’t apply.
Rob Wiblin@robertwiblin

It's ridiculous how much LLMs hallucinate - whenever I read 60 million books I remember every detail perfectly.

i've seen a lot of violently reactionary and fascistic things in reply sections here recently but none chill me to my bones harder about what's to come than the genre of reply of "What is going on?! Why is this all happening now??!!!" in response to disasters/sudden bad events
