They had come to the desolation that lay before Mordor: the lasting monument to the dark labour of its slaves that should endure when all their purposes were made void; a land defiled, diseased beyond all healing – unless the Great Sea should enter in and wash it with oblivion

@SpaceshipAddict Should do a storyline where they have to go back and reset changes done by well meaning socialists from the future subverting early 21st century capitalism. > "But Captain, these guys are destroying the planet and exploiting the masses!" > "Gotta preserve the timeline, Ensign."

My show idea: Star Trek Temporal Investigations. The crew of the USS Relativity(after Braxton was rehabilitated) go on adventures throughout future and history correcting temporal abnormalities and resetting timelines. They could literally visit any timeline or time period!

So I understand billionaires building bunkers to escape the upcoming collapse of civilization But, If there are no governments left and money is meaningless Are they still billionaires? Will anyone follow their orders? Have they thought about this?

@TomSloaneLD @aedison @jammywho21 From her asides on Only Connect I would infer that Victoria Coren-Mitchell is something of a socialist ... and I imagine she would have no truck whatsoever with being married to a Tory, I have to assume David is a good'un as well.

“I wouldn’t have predicted David Mitchell’s personal politics curdling as he became ever more famous until suddenly he was our Roger Allam in V For Vendetta. But you know what? Considering they make us watch it, he’s quite witty isn’t? Always was very witty. Oh—stand for anthem.”

Someone claiming that all these things are "throwing money away" compared to building giant honkin' space rockets has a lot in common with the guys building V2 rockets during WWII. I think space exploration is beautiful and wonderful. But universal healthcare is better.
Peter Hague@peterrhague

I keep hearing people tell me how expensive space is. How its such a frivolous waste. Its utter nonsense. SLS/Orion is basically the most expensive rocket currently flying, and even using that as a yardstick, the UK government throws money away at a far larger scale. Just look

The "mortage rates were FIFTEEN PERCENT" thing pisses me off It's propaganda, and you know how I know? My mum quoted it to me. They bought their house in '72 and the 15% rate was in 1990. It literally never affected them. It lasted 1 year when houses cost 4x pay. 7-9x now.

@tsmiggy Rates have no room to go down. The amount they've borrowed is already set. Payments for you in 2000 were 18% of salary. Payments for them are stuck at 30% and only going up.

@tsmiggy > the mortgage rate was 15% And the avg house cost 4x avg salary. And 15% rates lasted one year, through 1990. By 1995 they were 8.9%. By 2000 they were down to 6.5%. Now rates are 4% but houses cost 7-9x average wage. That brief nightmare for you is forever for the young.

They also fail to check facts, before the spout rubbish. When i bought my house the mortgage rate was 15%, everything we had was second hand, no carpets, no washing machine, hand washing nappys in the sink. We got on with it, and did not look for scapegoats. So they can do one.
El Cid@2LivesCid

It’s obvious to me that the recent attacks on pensioners receiving state pension by the younger generations is simply because they’re too thick and lazy to get off their asses and make something of themselves. They expect everything given to them. Scroungy useless bastards.

This isn't the fault of the boomers. If you're handed a fistful of gold coins, you take them. This is the fault of weak leaders, who believed the easy lies that took the burden off their shoulders and filled their pockets with money. "Small State" "Private Sector" "Market"

@TeagueRoger Poor boomers with your memory troubles ... You were pretending that a 25% equity share arrangement that costs nearly £1,600pcm in rent, service and mortgage payments actually costs £600pcm and is in some way equivalent to home ownership.

I bought my first home in the early 90s, the mortgage absorbed half of my salary. I had a number of young children, and part-time jobs. I couldn’t afford a car big enough to put pushchairs in. What I didn’t do was sneer about the generation before me. They had also grafted.
Shiv Malik@shivmalik

Dear boomers, can you afford to buy the house you live in currently with the wage you used to earn before you retired? If you can’t, then that’s the whole housing problem in a nutshell. It really is that simple to understand.
