In a landmark step for women’s health, the Federation of Obstetric and Gynecological Societies of India (FOGSI), under the inspiring leadership of President Dr. Sunita Tandulwadkar, proudly launches its Presidential Flagship Program – Nirmal Banaras Abhiyan – at the State Annual Conference of Uttar Pradesh in Agra on 22nd March 2025. This transformative initiative aims to eliminate cervical cancer in India, aligning with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals through early vaccination and screening. The pilot begins in Banaras (Varanasi), the parliamentary constituency of Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modiji, with 5,000 women undergoing HPV screening. Those testing positive will receive further care at Tata Memorial Centre, Varanasi. A dedicated team of 20 gynecologists from Varanasi is leading the on-ground implementation of this mission. We extend our heartfelt thanks to NOVARTIS and BD (Social Investment) for their support, and to Jhpiego (Johns Hopkins Program for International Education in Gynecology and Obstetrics) – our valued implementation partner. This pilot is a vital step toward our vision of a Cervical Cancer Mukt Bharat. FOGSI remains committed to scaling this model nationally and ensuring a healthier future for Indian women.
