Lately I've been seeing a lot of hype around quantum computing on this platform. Are those bots or humans? Either way, what I'm seeing is concerning. I want to provide an honest perspective on the current status quo, which is hopefully useful. Long story short, I do think a lot of exciting progress on QC will be made over the next few years. But I doubt those progress will be commercial applications.

@thegautamkamath Connes embedding conjecture (a question in pure mathematics about von Neumann algebras) is equivalent to Tsirelson’s problem (a question about whether two mathematical models of quantum entanglement are equal).

OMG! If scirate.com/arxiv/2001.043… posted to the @arxiv today by Ji, Natarajan, Vidick, Wright and Yuen checks out, it's HUGE: a quantum-complexity-theoretic refutation of the Connes embedding conjecture - one of biggest open problems in von Neumann algebras for well over 30 years.

@muggleraph @BristOliver My impression, as outsider to both, is there is very justifiable fear from both Jewish & Muslim communities of current trends in UK, with neither main party trusted to address it. Well-documented upswing in racially-&religiously-motivated hate crime shows this to be well-founded.

The election gives BJ the freedom to extend the transition, and to align UK & EU rules, if he wants to. He will probably do this, since leaving the transition without an FTA would be painful for the economy. He can take on ERG since he is master of his party. A thread. @CER_EU /1
